Quires

I have a ton of a quires in my stocks but they are not in the library. I cannot find the stockpile they are in and i do not understand how to fix it. Can anyone help?

I forbid tools from stockpiles(quires are tools) but my library still has no quires. I do not understand.

D'you have some bags or coffers in your library?  Check the location menu.  Barring that, delete whatever stockpile they're in and remake a new one in the library afterwards.

You need a chest or bag for storage in your library.  IIRC, it only works with (h) items... no (f) cabinets or such.  Quires will be stored in them, and then marked as available for your scribes and would-be authors.

Storage of items in the new zones is rather bugged, with various strange things happening. For instance, I've had empty chests in my library, and yet the library claimed to have a number of quires. I ended up making a tools stockpile on the library floor, and some of the things hauled there were actually quires. Even better, some of those quires were occasionally used to write something (copying didn't work, though).

Your library Writing Material (Desired) count includes all quires, written on or not.  Make sure that count is high enough to include blank quires.  I set mine at 200 or so to make sure all quires go into the library.  I don't know how many quires a coffer can contain, but I've seen it as high as 40.

Also, a written on quire may be carried around by a dwarf or laying around your fortress, still counting against your desired target.  This might explain empty coffers.
