Watching 100+ goblins, trolls & beak dogs turn into smoke in my new magma flood trap this morning. Too bad my local goblin civ only seems to have access to copper, though.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Successfully constructed the 3 new locations!

Successfully proved that 10 scholars end of year 1 is no substitute for 10 militia.

Successfully survive above-mentioned oversight.  Successfully trigger resident Bard'splosion.

Sucessfully found an forest embark that overlooks a lake and an adjoining river. With all 5 races (kabolds too) fire clay, and sand.

I like my magma stoneware and glass industries if theyre available.

The first time I successfully broke into hell.  I built a trap to bait the demons; an artifact door surrounded with retractable iron spikes, with a cave-in trap should the spikes fail to do the job.  The trap worked perfectly and I never needed to trigger the cave-in.  It was quite entertaining watching all those &s gather round the door, only to vanish in a puff of |s.

After that I built a staircase down into hell itself while my elite military held off the wandering lemures that remained, and engraved the corners of the map to inform any infernal wanderers they were now in dwarf territory.

after finding an addy spire sunk in lava i knew the only way id be able to get that shiny metal was to route some water and somehow encase the whole thing in obsidian.

I am proud to say that i have almost done that
Its taken about 5 years and probably about 20 dwarf lives but a couple flicks of some levers i think are linked up to some bridges and the water will be flowing so i'm crossing my fingers and hoping i didnt forget anything important

ps. it might be useful for encasing the fun stuff in obsidian but I havent really worked out the details of that one

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

Few things I personally am very pleased with:

I had a badass dwarf die of old age after he had many legendary skills. He had killed one of the rare actually deadly forgotten beasts, then a more impressive 3 cave dragons plus a huge amount of goblins basically alone in a massive invasion, wearing only few bronze items of shoddy quality. In addition it was in an old fort where military training still was bugged and I hadnt actually used any training rooms.

Another one was my favorite trap, several bridges that could be raised causing everyone on them to fall way down 60z into a 2z lava pit. It just was so really fun to destroy the invaders in the lava. Goblinite is overrated anyway.

Another one was when I hand picked 3 dwarves that liked diffrent kinds of hated vermin and made them engravers just to see what would happen. Only to have several nobles throw a massive tantrum almost killing my fort.

We're a failed civ in a world dominated by humans and goblins; but here to start our blaze to glory and back.

Successfully killed the alligator attack early in the embark.  The freshly forges bronze weapons was nicely timed.

Successfully built a hospital for the injured dwarf (left leg motor nerve damage).

Successfully made a bronze crutch and prescribed to the the miner-weaponsmith who received the alligator's collateral damage.

Successfully embark in a location and gathered 200+ units of hemp.
Hemp farm plots are to commence.  I can't wait for hemp flour, hemp soap, and hemp clothing for all citizens.

In a succession fort which was a constellation of such astonishing f*ckery it bent space and time, I managed to:

* triple the population during my 1.5 years
* set up a formal courtyard, entry fortress, statue garden, and trading area
* empty 10+ overseers worth of trash, corpses, used clothes and filth into the lava
* Close off the random passages going everywhere and raise FPS by 20-30 fortwide
* Trapped the web-spitting snail FB which was responsible for the latest rampage in a tiny section of the fort
* Killed the FB by filling his zone with magma

It was like my Master's degree for DF.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

Succession forts isnt about succeding though. People want you to do strange stuff and fuck up half the things. Sprinkle it a bit with shining stuff, but not everything. I personally wouldnt throw anything away either because Im a collector at heart and its not dwarven to throw away stuff.
