I have no pictures of this occurrence, but one time when playing in a short-lived fortress, among the early immigrants, I received an apparent citizen, whose symbol (like, dwarves are smiley faces, that "symbol") was a yellow Ä.

That's all I remember. I remember it did stuff like hauling and such.

Anyone have any similar experiences? What exactly was it?

The Ä symbol represents something... spoilerific. Having one in your fortress randomly would be quite unusual to say the least.

What caused the fortress to be short-lived, if you don't mind my asking? And which version of the game was this?

An Ä means a spoiler creature according to the wiki. Did you have modded raws? It could also be a human/goblin/treefondler elf that signed a petition to stay in your fort. (Happens if you have a Tavern. It occurs randomly from any visitor. You do get the final say though in that.)

That wouldn't turn it into an Ä. It would remain a U,g,or e after becoming a citizen. (Also, that's a recent addition, and this sounds like it happened a while ago.) I second the question about modded raws.

Do you still have the save? An Ä arriving with a wave of migrants is definitely something worth investigating legends for.

Short-lived because I started it in the middle of my HS biology class and gave up when the class ended.

Plus, the FPS instantly went to crap because I was playing on a school laptop.

Also it ended up going bad. I think some sort of animal came round and I beat the crap out of it. I remember there being much blood on the outside snow.

I don't have a save, or any evidence for this occurrence. Sure I may not sound very credible here but take this all hypothetically.

Too bad, there's no way of knowing why it was there without digging through Legends mode, and now you have me curious as to how the heck you ended up with an angelic vault guardian as a member of your civ.

It's an unusual enough occurrence that no one will be able to give an off-the shelf reason why it was there. There is no generic answer along the lines of "oh yeah, sometimes you can end up with an angelic vault-gaurdian appearing with a wave of migrants if....".

Sounds like there was a really interesting story buried in Legends mode. Alas, you'd need the actual save -- or the legends mode export files ... to find it. Long shot, but at any point did you open Legends mode and export the XML, and still have a copy?

I doubt it was an angel. I think it's more likely that it was a demon impersonating a deity that somehow wound up as a viable migrant (perhaps by way of getting captured.) That's still an unusual occurrence, to say the least. That it could work is even stranger.

Deity's are represented with Å, not Ä. Also, demons are &.

I hadn't realized that, but looking back, you're right! You learn something new every day, eh?

That said, is it possible that Lordhermitcrab mixed up the two symbols as well?

It's very possible I mixed up the actual A cymbal. It's been more than a year, but both the umlaut and the circle-thing kinda ring a bell.
