Might not be proximity, but "does not care about anything anymore" or cultural values.

Probably not that hard to falsify, these two.

As a note, bounding books in codex actually destroy descriptions and values. It's kinda a sucky bug. I usually leave them in quire form but I do find codexes to be more interesting thematically.

I also got "cheerful prose" so it's very much dependent on whose writing and what their personality is.

Fucking hell man, you aren't just getting the short end of the stick, you're being beaten with it.

Is your plan really to flush water into hell, and have the CARP marines fight them without threat of flame or disease?  If so, you are awesome, and one of the greatest DF military visionaries I've seen yet ( not that I've seen that many, or any, for that matter )

The books still say what piece of writing is in there though, and yeah clear glass books work well with the theme I'm going for.

But definitely not worried about creating more value at this stage...

Because fisher dwarves tend to go outside and outside is bad in an evil jungle.

So what was Id's final gift?

Also in my fort I have moved toward making earthenware bricks and glass, but mainly I have been focusing on casting the magma sea to extract ALL of the candy, a challenge I have not attempted thus far. For some reason I have something like 20,000 prepared meals because I keep trading masterpiece serrated steel disks for all of the dwarf's food and drink, and elf's nuts and animals.

I guess Hell is wearing on them.

Interesting hypothesis: proximity to Hell makes creatures harsher. That's why elves are dandies, humans are softer than dwarves, dwarves are tough and honor-bound, and goblins are cruel and vicious.

Explain kobolds then? They live in caves yet they aren't very awful or tough.

'o' prefer zone fishing?

not sure if that would make them not go outside if there was a safe(ish) indoor option or not.

Fishing is still buggy. If someone has fishing and fish cleaning as his labor, he will fish as long as there are fish on your map. Workaround is to only have few dwarfs with the fishing labor, and lots of them with fish cleaning. But with the easier farming and plant gathering, you most likely have more than enough food, thats sustainable!

Thanks to NCCommander, i'm very happy that we can see books from a fortress that has been running for hundreds of years!

Id left 8 stacks of vault metal bars, though I have yet to do anything with them.

There’s still cave fish, and lungfish as well we can fish the North/South river as it runs inside the glass tower now. But yeah, between the hydras, the farms in hell and the plant gathering of the tree farm, we have plenty of food.

After the flurry of about 15 books they get to writing maybe once a year now, but it’s nice seeing lots of dwarves reading in their spare time. No visiting scholars yet, but it’s only been a few years so I’m thinking we have to wait for one to be born somewhere in the world and then grow to adulthood and then travel here.
