what to do with caged goblins?
« on: February 16, 2016, 02:10:38 am »

so recently during a goblin siege, somehow a goblin thief made it past my defensive line of hammerdwarfs, but was luckily caught in a cage trap

now the question is what to do with the goblin?

I was going to build a drowning tank, but im interested in others suggestions and examples you come up with

no suggestion is too dwarfy, go nuts

I usually strip them of armour and weapons and then toss them in the arena for combat practice. I think your dwarves train faster against live targets rather than just sparring.
I mean if the Romans did it, it can't be that bad... right?

If I manage to capture a goblin noble, that ocassionally come as siege leaders, they usually go into a cage in iether zoo or fortress' leader room.
Everyone else gets dumped into barracks from above, sometimes I build some sort of arena to pit dorfs against invaders.
At one point when I felt really creative I made a whole new sport for my civilians, where goblins with no weapons and armor get dumped into a rectangular area from a hole above, where on two sides two teams with hammers (squads) are positioned. The team that manages to get most body parts in enemy half of field wins.

I would just do the humane thing and dump them into the magma sea. Or simply atom smash it.
Unless the cage is of a valuable material.
I suppose you should then empty the cage in a room where the goblin would meet a swift end.
Then smelt the cage into bars/wafers, which would then be used to make something actually useful compared to its value.

edit: A drowning tank would sound interesting. Maybe you should do that.

If you only have 1, you might want to save it for useful !!scientific!! endeavours like silk farms, repeaters etc. But it's not really hard to get more of them anyway.

Create a zoo and dump them in.

Put him in a secure 1x1 room and make your dwarves throw boulders at him from above.

Lock him in a room with fortifications and execute him firing squad style.

Strip him down, build a diving board, and "convince" him to take a jump into a river. Even if he survives, what can a single, naked, probably badly trained goblin do?

If you have any murderous critters, make the goblin fight them. If he lives and can fight, add more monsters. Alternatively a recruit could prove their worth fighting the goblin. Using trained soldiers in the arena is just boring.

Check if the Shaft of Enlightenment is still a thing.

So many possibilities, so little green amusement fuel.

throw him down a deep pit

introduce him to a forgotten beast

have him dropped down a series of 2 high bridges one after another until he is crippled and bleeds out

or you could unleash the hell of 100 badgers crammed into a single cage in a small room upon him

Step One: Make a blender. There are many varieties, pick the one that suits your fancy!
Step Two: Determine if if will blend.
Step Three: Repeat step two, making improvements as needed, until the answer to step two becomes yes.

can you give a caged goblin a different weapon? if so, give him a wooden sword, then put him in a arena. the arena should have small 1x1 pits all aroun it that go 70 z-levels down. if he dodges wrong he will die.

I lock them behind steel doors in my jail. They go berserk or melancholy after a few years and destroy any furniture in their cell. (usually the chain they were locked to)

I'm having trouble with the notion of *one* captive goblin: I usually save up until I have enough for a grand melee.

Maybe drop it from 20 z-levels into the middle of your dining hall? Or put it in your "favorite" noble's room, to see who's the better boxer. If the goblin beats the noble, re-cage it and repeat until dead.

I created a dinner theatre, made up of three z levels of tired tables and chairs with an arena in the center. Captured goblins would be made to fight bears for the amusement of the theatre patrons.
