Platinum weapons.
« on: February 14, 2016, 07:39:46 pm »

So i stuck some native platinum. I smelted it and was excited to make some platinum warhammers, BUT the forge gives me no option to create platinum weapons. (yet it gives me the option to make weapons out of the freakin angelic metals...)...

Whats going on here? Am I missing anything?

platinum is not a metal you can make items out of in vanilla

I think if you add [ITEMS_WEAPON] to it in the save raws, it should work, though

Just to add, the only way you can get platinum warhammers in vanilla is through strange moods.

I'm not sure, and the wiki contradicts itself on whether skulls are a valid moodable item.

Either way, it'd have to be a macabre mood, as the usual fey/secretive/possessed moods would only use bones and/or leather.

I was going to say "fail spectacularly", but you guys seem to be doing a great job of that already.

I had one once. Not sure if the skull being incorporated as the prominent decoration is what you mean by a skull chair.

I have yet to see the chair itself built of skulls though.

Its actually pretty easy to get a platinum blunt weapon.  Either get any random dorf to mood for weaponsmith (make one batch of copper bolt sand have no other moodable skills) and save-scum (artifact type isn't decided until its made), or find a dorf that likes a blunt weapon (mace/hammer), make weaponsmith their highest moodable skill (again, one bolt can be enough), then forbid all other metals but platinum when the mood.  The bonus is that you usually get a legendary weaponsmith when they mood.  OR you can be like me, who gets 10 "possessed" dorfs in a row... cuz the game clearly hates your facking guts.

Wouldn't a candy morningstar be better, given the edged damage? The pommel strike is good, though.

I remember someone saying a morningstar was "an edged weapon pretending to be a blunt weapon." Is that true?

In the way that they are good can openers while not as quick as others at butchering naked things, yes.
When I tested them (long time ago, may be outdated), they were weird material-wise: Steel was king, adamantine and silver were tied for the next best thing.

My current fort of Bronzefurnace has a mood produced Platinum Warhammer with bone spikes and silk decorations. Whoever gets to hold the badass thing (basically, whoever is the best hammerdwarf out of my 30 soldier standing army) gets to be both Hammerer and Champion while they remain alive. Said weapon is devastating, but not that much more badass in the hands of a skilled user than a silver one. Still, bling value is good.
