U mate wut?
« on: February 10, 2016, 11:38:08 pm »

So I was trying out the new image specifying update, and made a statue to a historical figure, to be more precise, a deity of my civilzation. Apparently if you chose the "historical figure option", the artist still has the liberty to pick an event / relation. This is what he made:

Mate of what? I need to do some legends diving after I've had some sleep.

Emaciated crone; sounds like a night troll. They have random names along those lines. They kidnap people from settlements near their lairs and make them their mate.

Every time I attempt to specify a historical figure my game crashes, I am however using a save from ~2 versions ago. Anyone else experienced something similar?

Did you use dfhack?  I had an old save crash when I tested it, but it said the historical figure's name was "autochop/config", so I figured it was a utility thing.  I'm not sure if there's an actual bug or not yet.

The Oxford Comma thread won't save us this time.

I had used DFhack on the previous version, but not yet on this one. Every time I would open the specify menu the game would crash, before I had the option to choose any figure. I've created a new world and so far I'm able to create images of historical figures without a crash in adventure mode. I'll try it in fortress mode to see if it still crashes.

Wait, how do you have .06 already? I didn't think it had been released yet?
Toady put it up earlier today. Try refreshing the main page if you can't see it.

Your browser will usually cache the page to make it load faster. Refreshing forces it to ask the server for the page properly, so you will then see the current version of it, and not an older cached one.

Can this happen in dwarf/adventure mode, or is it a world gen thing?

In versions .34 and earlier, it was strictly during worldgen, but as of .40 night troll activities and many other worldgen things happen during play as well.
It won't happen to your dwarves or adventurers (as far as we know), if that's what you're wondering.

Yes I was wondering if you could actually interact with night trolls. For example, in adventure mode can you kill a night troll, even though you (probably) can't witness it kidnapping and mating with someone?

@Chief10

What do you mean interact?

You cannot speak/interact with them, though they aren't always hostile to you.

I was basically asking if you can find these creatures in adventure mode, or if they are only part of a theoretical population of historical figures. For example, could I walk into the troll's lair? Based on your response it sounds it sounds like you can, but I've never seen one.
