Child... Cyclops?
« on: February 05, 2016, 01:50:39 pm »

So, I was going for a 'Hold The Line' game and this happens...

Is this a thing now?

He just wandered into some cage traps instead of the Hallway o' Doom AND the Baited Goblin Masher.

So, some questions - what do I do with him?
Also, child dragons when?
Are semimegabeasts breedable now?

D'awww! Only in Dwarf Fortress.

I assume this means that megabeast procreation is possible (duh, I guess, given the existence of Night-Troll families.)

As so often happens with DF, it's hard to tell if this is a bug or a feature.

RE Dragons: While they do grow (a very young dragon is the size of a cat, I believe,) they have no child-state.

Toady added Semi and Megabeast breeding a couple years ago. Doesn't happen a lot since I think they need to have spawned in the same region to hook up.

You must have a lot of cyclopses around somewhere. Or a co-habitable breeding pair in a lair somewhere (, maybe you can trap them for experiments, operation cyclops fortress is go.)

Pity you can't make it a fortress resident via brainwashing or assimilation, you'd even have the tools to clothe and arm it with steel.

How do I switch from DF mode to legends mode?

Maybe it might have happened because I made a 5x boost to megabeasts and titan numbers in a medium region... Oh well. Still considering keeping it as a 'dungeon boss'. Do dorfs butcher titans?

Its sentient, so no. However a none-dwarf immigrant can do the job as well as create products from it. Try getting a goblin on board via the tavern system citizen petition system.

You can switch to legends mode by making a copy of the save, retire the fortress, and then start legends mode on that save, and finally restore the save when done. It's also possible to do using DFHack with the command open-legends (it's still recommended to make a backup of the save, though).

Dwarves do butcher titans, provided they're edible, but they do not butcher semi megabeast giants because of sapience.
There are differing opinions regarding whether butcher ethos or fortress ethos wins out regarding butchering of sapients, and I'm not aware of any actual test being conducted to settle the issue.

Yeah, this happens sometimes. As an adventurer I once killed a Minotaur only to be choked to death by it's daughter. I guess I aked for it by killing Mommy.

I suspect that 'Child' is part of it's name, rather than modifying 'Cyclops'

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

No. Cyclops child is the either default or raw defined name for a child state of a creature.
