I love the new Temples!
« on: February 04, 2016, 04:49:07 pm »

Hi!

I just wanted to share my excitement regarding the new Temple feature. Before, my dwarves were gloomy and grumpy because I ran out of alcohol and they have so far had to manage with just water. But now, they descovered the bliss of Religion and like 2/3 of my 35 dwarves spend most of their time meditating in the temple and praising their gods. ^_^

P.S: How do I assign some containers and instruments to the temple? It's been a while. *blush*

Just build a chest or coffer in the temple. Dorfs will fill it with instruments automatically. 'l' brings up the location menu where you can fine-tune how many you want and assign performers.

At first it puzzled me when I saw messages such as "Meditate on Murder!"

"Meditate on Suicide!" outright alarmed me. Made me regret my volcano embark at first.

To ‼be‼, or not to ‼be‼? That is the question!

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

What's in a name? that which we call a plump helmet
By any other name would smell as sweet;

Oh right, has anyone yet managed to decode whether it has a different effect on a dwarf if they meditate on a certain subject over the other? I guess praying to gods doesn't affect them much at the moment even though the gods are aligned with different aspects? So no increase in Night Creature appearances even though I've an architect who regularly visits the Temple to say his prayers to my civ's god of darkness?

Everything I've seen suggests it just makes them fulfilled. They feel better about worshipping their god of darkness or meditating over Murder, and that's it. Maybe in a future update Toady will make these dark dwarves more likely to use each other's skin to make a really nice sock.

Speaking of temples of evil,

Anyone figured out how to trick dwarves into making a statue of a god nobody worships?
