Vermin, SYN_INGESTED, and transformations?...
« on: January 14, 2016, 01:22:52 am »

Three questions.

1. Do animals that eat vermin suffer SYN_INGESTED from any of their parts or tissues?

2. Do vermin that gnaw at food suffer SYN_INGESTED effects?

3. Can vermin be transformed with CE_BODY_TRANSFORMATION?

The first should work, although I have not confirmed it in practice.  Keep in mind that you need to give them GOBBLES_VERMIN_CLASS, regular vermin hunters (like cats) do n
not actually eat their kills.  You might need the syndrome to be on the vermin's 'main' material, usually muscle.

No on the second two questions.  Vermin work completely differently than normal creatures.

Otherwise you wouldn't be able to have innumerable vermin everywhere.

Other verminizisms: I have not been able to target them with regional interactions, but I could target them as creatures from DFHack.

Important to note that this is a 0.40 script not yet tested on 0.42, but the point is that vermin are considered creatures.  Except when they're not.

Vermin are a type of creature; however, they never exist as units, only as "vermin events" (which can be changed to/from items in some cases).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Can we make vermin suddenly and randomly transform into full fledged units?

Tried this awhile back. Sadly doesn't work properly but I can't remember why.

Vermin are not technically creatures, afaik. They are more like items that move around (e: or as noted, "vermin events"). Trying to turn a creature into a vermin, or a vermin into a creature, is a dead end proposition as far as I can tell.

Its also important to note that there is a bug involving any sort of reaction involving vermin (and some other creature/item specific things outside of reactions) where the material tokens are really screwed up. Usually you'd specify something like CREATURE:CASTE, but the game discards the caste and effectively gives you a casteless vermin, which means that any creature token you give these spawned vermin that is defined as part of a caste (most everything, really) is ignored.

I don't know the limits of what is possible in DF hack, mind you.
