It's a long and confusing story which I don't know if I can explain succinctly, but basically I am chronically unemployed and am supposed to be transferring from one government agency that deals with that sort of thing to another (that is more geared towards helping no-hopers get their shit together), but for some reason (I'm guessing clunky automated systems and pointless beaurocracy) an appointment with the old group has been automatically set for me today.
Now, I spoke to the over-arching service that is supposed to oversee both of these smaller companies (called 'providers', though what they provide other than stress and unpleasantness I've no idea) and they said to simply call the first lot and have them postpone the appointment to next month, at which point it would become irrelevant.
Great! That's not such a big deal! What a weight off my mind.
So then I call them, as instructed, sitting through another bout of (somehow even worse) hold music and recorded voices talking shit, finally get ahold of a human employee, and... they flatly refuse to help, saying they can't reschedule it that far away and that I'm still required to attend. They magnaminously offered to reschedule it for tomorrow, as if that would help anything.
Then they told me I could try calling the other provider to see if they can push
their appointment
forward. Ugh.
No thank you, two phone calls has already left me feeling stressed enough. There is no way I am setting foot in my old provider's offices again (I'm creeping my way towards a panic attack at the very thought), so I guess I'll just have to miss an appointment and grovel for forgiveness later in the week. It is only Tuesday, after all, and I'm due to be paid on Sunday.
...Fuck, it just occurred to me that they might not reinstate my payment until I actually attend another appointment. Oh gods this just gets worse. I need to pay my gas bill on Sunday. Dx
Although, silver lining, if memory serves I think the company's "re-engagement" appointments are a lot less painful than their actual full-blown torture sessions, so maybe I can just call them up tomorrow and arrange one of those for later in the week. *shrug*
