Don't be insulting.  You specifically stated that you don't like children because they drink all of your booze.  If you don't want someone to call you out on having a fundamental misunderstanding of the mechanics of the game, then you should try to frame your complaints in a fashion that doesn't make it apparent.

For the record I am a father, and I really intensely dislike people who have a cavalier attitude towards violence inflicted on children.  This is an open forum, so while you have every right to make your thread and state that you don't like children, I have every right to point out when you are wrong, and that I find your attitude distasteful.

So while I understand the positions of both parties above, I think that we might be confusing the smashing of fake, digital editions of children with the actual smashing of real bundles of joy. Children in real life are meant to be loves and cared for, while in dwarf fortress they are carried into a full melee by their mothers.

Also, I shot soda out my nose at the above response. Bravo.

I concur, these children are not real. Therefore resource management can afford to be prioritized. Even if it's not strictly necassary. Or even remotely moral.

Don't bother to get rid of children most of the time, but if I do I sually throw them into unexplored caverns via brige-a-pult. That way they can do something useful before getting eaten.
Or I let them get poked by upright training spears. Gives my doctors more training then just offing them with actual spikes.

And when they sing songs about it years later, we'll look back and remember it as the precious memory it is.

Also, hostage implies that he wants something in return. That looks more like a parental guidance warning (I slay me) than a demand for action on our part.
