I know this isn't 3.5, but Pathfinder's Undead Sorcerer background looks like a good fit here.

Class Features

Ah, yes. Of course. We are a Death Knight; the embodiment of death and incarnation of honour, enwrapped into a Lawful Evil manifestation.

Perhaps you were once a mighty Death Knight, feared by all, but destroyed and reincarnated; or perhaps you were recently living, and have since been raised. Either way, this world is full of living, breathing, miserable creatures of good and vitality. You cannot allow this abomination to continue; life is a futile effort of resisting the inevitable darkness, and you are that darkness.

But for now, however, you are naked, in a loose, hilly forest, the ground thick with bushes and vines and dry soil. With a handaxe.

You look around in the vicinity of the area for clues of what happened here, and how you came to be. On the grassy knoll that is the clearing you are upon, there is a clear indentation in the grass where you have been lying. The ground is darkened with dead grass and maggots - you have clearly been here a while. You feel your face; the grey skin is webbed tightly over your skeleton, your fingers thin - though a moment ago, you could have sworn your skin was... simply lesser. It seems to be regenerating to some degree.

Beside this, there is little more. You were a corpse in the woods, and all but the hatchet in your head seems to have been looted.

Your memory is blank of anything before, though flashes of images come and go like the wind in a fog. You turn north-eastward, and feel a yearning in this direction. You feel something is in that direction, though you know not what.
