While the strike to the chest does hit her directly (and knock her down, if not cut her thanks to the bluntness), it doesn't stop her from doing one more action by reflex: hurling the sword at him in a powerful twitch of surprise.

Dave tilts his head. After a second, he holds the sword skyward to inspect her more easily in the light.

"Nice to meet you." Laura says. She waits for him to make the first move.

Esi appears to be a very well-made sword, about three feet long. Longer than she should be, Dave would note, if he knew a lot about swords. ((Description in her sheet. ))
And then - combined with the sunlight in the background - she becomes too bright to see clearly.

James moves forward, and strikes at her stomach with his palm.

Dave grunts and looks away bring the sword down in a swing towards an unoccupied wall.

She takes the hit- although he would note that what he hit was noticeably harder than skin should be- and returns with a punch to the face, which hits a lot harder than one would expect from a teenage girl.

well...i think i do but they never called it math and to be honest they weren't good teachers so i know some stuff just not as much as one should?

The sword hits Ray in the chest.  He staggers back, but quickly recovers and extends his hand to help her up.

That is exceedingly difficult, as he is now holding on to the fabric of her sleevey thing, and she's a person again. It's very weird fabric.
And warm.

James's other hand flashes up, but only manages to deflect the arm just enough so that it strikes the side of his face. The arm that had been previously been used for punching folds itself up as he uses it to elbow her stomach, once again.
