It's rather hard to hold on while she's wrenching herself out of his hands.

Dave doesn't try holding on, seeing as he lets go of her and jumps to his feet, which impressive for a man of his girth.

Esi considers her options for a moment, and then use her crook to fling his machete far away from Dave's reach. She then goes for a chop to his shoulder.

Dave is unprepared for the chop, getting forced down to his knee, but he ends up grabbing Esi's handle and starts forcing her to the floor. ... Fighting a weapon that doesn't have a wielder is really hard, Dave discovers.
