More Problems with Masterwork (crash before title screen)
« on: December 21, 2015, 01:38:00 pm »

Heeey guys... It's me again.

Everything worked fine on my old computer, but the hard drive's acting up. I redownloaded MDF34.11 onto a "new" computer, and unzipped it using a website. Everything worked fine, even the GUI, until I tried to start up DF. And then it refused, saying that "data/index is missing/corrupted".

What is "data/index"? Is it fine if I copy it from Vanilla DF34.11? And is anybody else having problems with MDF34.11? (Has it even been changed for years?)

it is a vanilla file, sounds like you installed into/over an older/newer version. Just download the vanilla version you are looking for, go to dwarffortress/data, look for a file called index, and copy it into your installation.

Or redownload the mod and unpack into a new folder.

I tried copying from vanilla 2012. It loads then crashes.

Try a clean download and unpack with 7zip.

Can't. :P I still am not allowed to install things on my computer. Nothing was wrong besides this, so I doubt it's the website, but I'll unpack again.

If you have Norton Anti Virus installed it automatic removes files at Sonar Mode. Just create an File and remove it from the Sonar list then Copie DF Stuff there.

Don't have Norton. I redownloaded, it's gone even before unzipping. Could somebody upload it? It shouldn't be that big. Just a few kilobytes.

Best bet might be a friends computer or a public computer that you can unzip on and use a flash-drive to bring it back.  Or even use the flash drive to get it from the old computer.

Thanks, I'll try that. Although if I could get anything from the old computer, I would. *sigh* The hard drive's broken, I think. From what I can tell, it works fine until Windows starts up. Which means it's useless, :P

Yes! The school Macintosh allowed me to download an unzipper (after an unsuccessful first try), I've unzipped it, I've rezipped it with .zip, and I'm uploading it to the web! If anybody else wants it ever, just ask me.

SCRATCH THAT! It loads, but doesn't get to the title screen. This was unzipped using a standard downloaded (not web-based) unzipping tool on Mac. The DFHack screen gives the following errors:

"Plugin stonesense has no enabled var!
Succubus reaction hook activated"

I have checked, and the index file is there. Has anyone ever had this problem?

That's a tough one but can you try deleting the file script/succubus/summon-hook.lua? It may help.

If not we'll need your specs: windows version, cpu and video card.

Run as admin. Sounds like dfhack starts and it gets shut down. Maybe it is falsely identified as a hacking tool, which it technically is.

I doubt it's DFHack, as it's working fine for me in 42.XX.
