A Three-Man Mod?
« on: December 20, 2015, 02:16:30 am »

Okay, so I used to be really active on here, and I was working on making a mod by myself to rival Masterwork, if not in content at least in enjoy-ability... Problem is, my computer died, taking 200+ hours worth of modding with it, including a fully finished graphics pack based off of Ironhand, done with Paint unit by unit. I only have a little bit of my work left, mostly the almost finished products that I posted on here. So, instead of tossing myself back at it with my moderate at best skill, I was hoping I could recruit two or three modders off the forum to help me out with this and start fresh. Anyone who feels like helping can help of course, just message me what you wanted to include or help with and I'll probably accept it.

What I'm aiming for is a DF Hack-free mod, using DF's own weird mechanics to get things to work instead of DF Hack. Hopefully adding some races in, and a lot more semi-megabeasts, and maybe some megabeasts. For races, I'll be adding: Draconians, a dragon-humanoid race who is often at war, Gnomes, even smaller than the dwarves, but more advanced and can produce a lot more stuff, and the non-playable Tauladrim, who'll be a beast people.

So who's in to help?

While my health means that I probably can't provide any major help, I'd be glad to assist in some capacity.

Any contribution is good. Even if it's just "You can do this nifty thing."

And how did you make a tileset in Paint? Paint doesnt allow transparencies, Ironhand needs those to work.

It doesn't work? The Tileset worked for me, even if it didn't look the greatest.

Gimp would be more useful than Paint if you're starting from scratch.  I also liked Game Maker's sprite editor for small graphics and animation.

I would like to start doing some teamwork here, but I'd really prefer to work on my own mod, Furry Fortress, or to work on things that are universal, like the new types of metals and woods and new reactions that FuFo uses.

I do have races of animal people, both mammals and reptilians, so maybe there's something there that you could use for your draconians and beastmen.

You could also join Meph's mod, contributing your own races/creations :). It would be less work than for you, and provide more variety for players.

I gave up on Genesis after I realized that Masterwork is so modular, there is literally no reason NOT to play it unless you want some total conversion stuff, that's why I am working on Wasteland mod now.

I'm working on an evolving turn-by-turn request mod over in the forum games section. Each turn players get some points and they can spend them to add things to the game. If you're looking to just mod and need something to mod, you're welcome to help me. If you have your own ideas for what to mod, you can contribute to my mod, or I can always contribute to yours.

@Deon: Which mod are you talking about? I would be kinda interested in that.

There are good reason not to play it Deon. It is vastly outdated and I have not done any work in a year. ;)

It's still quite good, even if a little dated. I definitely won't be making anything as big as yours, not alone at least. Before my computer was killed, it was maybe a fifth as big as Masterwork from a month's dedicated work. A lot of that was on the graphics, though. That or trying to figure out how to do complicated things without DFHack.

Sounds like someone didn't build a mandated floodgate.

If the drive was "merely" hammered, a data recovery firm should be able to get the files back for a few hundred dollars.  Make your hammer-happy friend pay for it.
