After taking a few minutes to think it through, Saxson decides to download the records.  With any luck, he wouldn't be on this rock much longer for the authorities to find.

Assuming that the ship's intercom is working and not in a pawn shop somewhere, he sends the following message throughout the ship: "Alright then, I've, uh, 'acquired' some navigational records we can use.  If you all can find some work specifically related to these destinations, we'll have a better chance of actually being able to fulfill our contracts." He then listed off the names of the records.

Go ahead and download 'em.  Then, look on Point-sites for any work related to those destinations.  Also check in with my military contacts about possible related work, if I have time.

(May I make a suggestion? Using Google docs to handle it might be advantageous, considering that it remains active provided it is edited every so often. It also can be opened on a phone, which I use.)

Go ahead and download 'em.  Then, look on Point-sites for any work related to those destinations.  Also check in with my military contacts about possible related work, if I have time.

Once the records are downloaded, you quickly disconnect from the other ship, pull some information about these new locations and do some searching on the Web.

On checking the navigational listing, you notice that the capital system, Liberty, has appeared on the system. You assume that due to the Merch having cleared the system he must have also wiped out the navigational records - including the capital system. However, any ship with power will always retain Liberty's location, as it's hardcoded as point Zero for this region.

Rather chuffed with your work, you next load up your HoloWrist device and attempt to make contact with old connections... However, the few you try fail to answer your hails. It might be worth trying again some other day.

MacHalen looks pensive for a moment and seems to take shelter from the street-crowd in a doorway. "I'm not really into the mercenary work, man. You went off the radar, but I'm still working for Uncle Sam, dude."

I stash the necklace in my quarters and disembark from the ship. I stroll around the nearby streets, not going too far from the ship hanger. As  walk I think about what will be needed to repair the damaged sections of the ship and generally explore.

Saxson wasn't great with computers, which is why his smile grew wider as the navigational data successfully interfaced with the ship.  If he believed in luck, he would certainly say it was on their side.  As for their work prospects, maybe a bit of private sector employment was in the cards?

Contact SilverCorp HQ on the HoloWrist and ask them if they have any freelance work available.  Tell them we do it all: sample acquisition, salvage runs, whatever they might have in mind.

Start doing calibrations, familiarization, and general playing with the ship's weapon systems, preferably in a way that doesn't bring down the fuzz.

You leave the hangar; a large circular structure capable of housing at least a hundred frigate-class spacecraft. The midday sky is spotted with the rare cloud, the horizon bleached high with the usual smog in the distance. You walk along the dirt paths alongside the steel roads, merchant courier vehicles hover up and down the roads at a lazy, orderly pace.

As you walk along the somewhat crowded streets you take into consideration the superficial damage to the interior of the ship.

Engineering Roll (+4); Difficulty 4. 7+4; 11. Critical success +12exp

Whilst the ship has been stripped bare of all and anything useful, if you had an Engineer's Kit, you have a moment of genius and believe you would be able to melt and resurface the majority of the interior of the ship without causing any noticeable damage, using the molten drippings to craft new infrastructure to rebuild the holes.
The replacement of lost terminals, however, would require new parts - HDs (Holographic Displays), surface boards - it depends how fancy the rest of the crew would want the terminals. You could of course always fall back on the pre-war stuff of physical input devices and plasma screens for a pittance in credits, or go full-whack with 360-degree holographic air interfaces.

MacHalen's face twists in what might be considered pity or awkwardness. "Sorry, man. Since the war ended, things have been cooling down rapidly. Vets are being sent home and the damaged mechs are being scrapped to make up the financial losses. Unless you have credits to supply to Sammy, I doubt he'll be interested."

You consider doing some work on the ship... then realise you have no idea what you're doing.
((Apologies; I got your character mixed up on the previous update with the weapons, I didn't notice you had no engineering or mechanical skills. You got lucky, I guess!))

Mr. Smith smiled into the wrist device.  "Good afternoon, Jenny.  I represent a small but experienced group of freelancers skilled in salvage runs, 'acquisitions,' and settling individual or inter-corporate disagreements.  Now, I currently have several potential clients on my shortlist, but SilverCorp in particular caught my eye."

"I'd like to give you, Jenny, the first opportunity to employ our group at a very reasonable price, which I'm sure your supervisors will appreciate.  Shall we talk details, or are we just wasting each other's time?"

After making a mental note to procure an engineers kit I begin actively looking around at people and shops. I'm looking for something akin to pawn shop or a scrapyard of some sort where I could get some broken or outdated tech for cheap, but I'm doing so leisurely. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for things that interest me and generally enjoying the nice day. I also think about what I know of this city (as I've lived on this pangea planet all my life I should know a few general facts and trivia about the culture and the city. Maybe  :P.)

Would you like me to pass you through to our Recruiter Team?"

The grin perpetuates.
