Praying with an exclamation

This dwarf

Seems to be praying to the same god in a different manner than this dwarf

Who is having a green-text job with no exclamation, as opposed to the purple text with exclamation.

What does this mean?

Also, there is a dwarf who is "Meditating on justice!" in purple text, with other dwarves "Meditating on trade" and such stuff in green text.

Purple +exclamation = WILL NOT STOP.

Green = as likely to obey your orders as any other time. So not at all really.

Furthermore:
Purple will branch and fulfill certain needs.
Green won't do this.

That's not true. Both will branch, just purple doesn't get canceled like green does.

So, if I get this right, then green meditations/prayers will get canceled at any time if a job becomes available? That explains why every single person in the fort is suddenly meditating and praying after I set up the Temple.

(purple! means they won't cancel the activity for work due to unmet needs, green activities will be cancelled for jobs -- it's similar to "on break".  if there's a bug with worship vs. needs, that's a different matter.)

"...due to unmet needs..."
The "Green won't do this." wasn't directed to the branching but to the "... fulfill certain needs."

No, both fulfill needs. Purple is because the unmet needs are too large.

(At least I think? It wouldn't make sense for only purple to meet needs.)
