If a male and female character decide to have a child, the child shall take one of the parents stats (Of the female player's choice, she can choose either the male character or female characters stat pool) and have that child inherit it. The rest of the stats shall be the average of the two parents combined. This will allow your population to slowly become better and more evolved.

What if it is a male player playing a female character? I think you meant the player of the female character as there could be two female players or two male players. Nitpicking is an art.

Could be interpreted as a "female player", as in, "the one who plays the female".

You could have a child with practically anything, even if it was a motorbike.

It is actually not too bad. Once you get past all the innuendoes and references to stuff it's Adventure mode DF with a storyline and without a lot of the detail, also with NPCs who all have unique conversations coded for them.

You can, but the beginning group will have slight bonuses (That will be described through the first post). This doesn't mean it's bad to join mid-game, but if your interested, I definitely suggest joining in the beginning. Heck, even through the first turns is a great time to join. Mid-game to late-game is okay to join, but it's like joining a god-game past creation stage. You miss a part of important choices. Still join though!
