I'll go with the monarchy I guess, since they're understaffed.
Very intrigued how this will go with 18th century technology. And just pre-emptively, steampunk does not into real physics.

Armistices will kick things along from time to time.  And while several areas of steampunk would not work under real physics, there is a possibility that at least some of those ideas could be used as inspiration for tech that could work.

I'm assuming it's bad manners to look at another nations thread.

It's frowned upon, yes. However; I think this happened with the original Arms Race game by Sensei where people could/would look at each other's threads but they were asked not to act upon what they read.

You should probably just refrain from it in general though. Some accidental clicking on the wrong thread will probably be inevitable over however many weeks this runs, but I don't think any of us are cheap enough to try and cheat at a game with no stakes.

After this is over I might check on all the threads to see the tech development.

Yeah. I wasn't endorsing the whole looking-at-other-teams-thread thing, btw.

I wasn't planning on doing it, just wanted to make sure.

I'd rather people just stay out, as it can unconsciously affect their decisions.

After this is over I might check on all the threads to see the tech development.

Unless you are referring to 'after the game has ended' with 'this', don't.  There's some stuff that can be heavily affected by that information.

A minor rule created as a result of looking through the old Arms Race thread and seeing naval warfare was never addressed.
If a new variety of ship is something different (ex. new ship is a galleon type vessel), a complexity penalty is applied to it for one turn as a shipyard is made to produce the vessel.  If this pushes the vessel into the 'National Effort' level and the Production Phase is not used on it, only the shipyard would be made in that year.  The penalty will then be removed the next turn.  To see how the complexity penalty affects expense, look under the resources section of the rules in the original Arms Race's rules.  A link to the old thread is in the OP.

Anyway, I think I'd like to join the loyalists.

Confederacy seems to be doing badly, since both Loyalists and Monarchy have three pages each, and they have only one.

Actually, they are mostly agreeing on everything, only thing having stopped me from having them enter the revision phase being someone having put up a possible addition that no one had responded to at the time.  A bit of a debate over a new direction has started up now, though.
