You are adventurers or something along those lines. You are fighting the first stage of an overly long boss, which appears to be a skilled warrior. What do you do?
Rules
This is minimalist, allowing you to do almost anything.
You can respawn without spending your action for the turn. When you do, you are a human (or something of practically equal power) who can somehow survive the current state of the battlefield.
You get one action per turn by default.
Rolls work as described in this spoiler.
1-: You fail horribly. The lower the roll, the more horrible the failure.
2: You fail with no side-effects.
3: You succeed at part of what you were trying to do.
4: You succeed at most of what you were trying to do.
5: You succeed.
6+: You succeed, with collateral damage. The higher the roll, the more collateral damage.
The boss's True Form is behind the Ablative Invincibility Aegis, which cannot be pierced or bypassed by any means other than fighting through its layers.
Each layer of the Ablative Invincibility Aegis has one stage guarding it, as well as becoming a stage based off of how you killed its guard.
You cannot harm a layer before killing its guard.
The True Form gains abilities based off of how you kill each previous stage, in addition to the abilities it starts with.
Layers of the Ablative Invincibility Aegis cannot be restored by any means.
Generally, boss stages are far harder to kill than you and are immune to anything that would defeat them in one turn.
You can't remove a stage's abilities.
The game will end upon the death of the True Form.
