Or Alan is probably panicking because he A) got tossed into another world suddenly, B) got attacked by two metroids and C) got exposed to a load of acidic fluids that probably react weirdly with wizard biology or something.

Or we can retcon that and say nothing happened between Idou answering Mio's question and Mio and Idou's conversation.

Also, Deadpool falls under the 'funny' metagaming thing. :|

Deadpool is hilarious meta, since every time he does it it's a joke, and thus would be within the rules. Telling everyone they're fictional is not hilarious meta.

Speaking of Deadpool, are we ever going to see him?

I'm more okay with it being retconned than it being handwaved, FWIW.
And the reason I brought up Deadpool: He is clearly insane, but also right.  So yeah, bad handwavium.
