Not Trading Currency
« on: October 27, 2015, 09:25:58 pm »

"Not Trading Currency" always appears in the lower left of the Trade screen. Is it not possible to trade with coins or am I doing something wrong?

Do you have coins from the civilization you are trading in?

Hmmm.... I think so but I'm not sure. I had a bunch of different coins from several different civs. I couldn't even sell my stuff for coin.

I think currency trading is impossible in the current version. You can only trade goods.

I don't know if currency trade is bugged this version, but if it isn't, you have to use the civ's own currency. Other civs will buy coins, but only for their raw value (i.e. material), rather than their assigned value.

I've used coins to purchase things, I'm pretty sure it works fine. (Pretty sure, since I can't recall if I also threw in material goods too.)

Will test.

some merchants are unwilling to trade with currency. you can usually tell if the stacks of coins actually show up on the trade screen..if they do, then you cant trade with currency with that specific merchant. it might have to do with their race, as so far dwarves refused to trade with human currency..possible bug

Just a guess, but I think it's because they come from another culture, but fail to adopt the currency local to where they settled. So they'd only trade in their native culture's coin, and value everything else as bits of metal.

It's never worked for me until v.0.42.03. Now it always works.

Seems like only human nations trade in currency. The rest of them rarely carry pouches. Go all over a fortress or retreat and not a single trader has coin. It's like they mint and then just hand it over to bandits to collect.

I've always traded with the gemstones you can find in mead halls or wherever. A single one can buy enough food for an in-game week.

There are sources of portable wealth with a higher weight-to-value ratio, but sometimes you want to reduce the inventory spam, and if you're holding the official coin of the realm, why should you not be able to trade in it? wtf else do they do with it?
