Toribash, because it's the game we all play without mentioning it.
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:57:10 am »

It seems pretty obvious that we all love Toribash, and if you don't or don't know what it is follow this link here OR, if you're REALLY cool, find it on Steam!

Since the last topic is over four years old (unless I missed something... "Toribash" didn't turn up anything new in search) I figured we can share our replays, epic moments, Bay12tourneys, and even--if you're up to it--Guides by Bay12... I know there's a lot of talented Toribash players hanging around!

GO!!!

Your friendly, neighborhood Scoopz,
signing off.

P.S. I'll play any mode with you guys,
but I enjoy Aikido, Joust, Katanas, Judo, and Taekkyon. I'd like to get more in to the various forms of boxing in Toribash as well as Mushu and Wushu.

Whoo! I play (a bit)! And will play more, hopefully, though will have DF too and a lot on my plate in future.

PTW, basically.

Come to think of it, Einsteinian Roulette organised a Toribash meetup over the irc a week or so ago...

There was a thread in play with your buddies a while back.

Yes there were threads, but they're likely very old at this point (2011/2014) and a new one isn't such a big deal.

I remember playing this when everything was free. I didn't even play online that many times, just had fun screwing around in singleplayer and with some silly mods.

I tried playing this game once. I bashed (no pun intended) my head against the wall of a learning curve, fell over, and never woke up.

It's definitely a bit of a learning curve, but different mods have differing levels of difficulty in terms of move sets and parameters. Aikido is what most people start off on.

I like greykido. It's prettymuch just akido with platforms you can use to save yourself from a DQ...sometimes....

Anyone gonna be on on the next few hours? History common assessment left me to tired for creative DF, so I'd love to mess around for a bit.

Been awhile since I last flailed about. I might be up for a round or 2, provided someone opens a room.

I tried playing this game once. I bashed (no pun intended) my head against the wall of a learning curve, fell over, and never woke up.

You are not alone!

Start by going through the tutorial with Uki. Play around a bit in free-play (which is also great for practice any time. Cultivate some openers.) The first step into the toribash scene is aikido. Easy to learn, and fun to play at all levels. When you're starting out try modes like jousting, judo, and taekkyon.

twinswords is fun, but doesn't really have any bearing on the rest of the game. If you want a more realistic sword-combat mode, try katana-fixed. (not sure why it isn't more popular)

When you think you've found some flow and how to reliably move you tori about, consider branching out to wushu, mushu, and the various toriboxing modes. (I had started to learn the ways of wushu, but lost most of my knowledge of good multi-step openers after a long hiatus)

The hardest modes to learn are sparring, and parkour. Neither of which are really based on winning so much as creating the most interesting replays possible.

Always be on the look out for new modes popping in to the official servers like acrojousting or greykido!
