Cold Fusion initiative
OOC Thread

After a long drive to the base and a short wait through the security checkpoint, the pilots and other new arrivals to CFI California are allowed onto the base. A short orientation session has been planned by the base's managers and thus security guards escort everyone to the conference room. The little you see of the base is clean, modern and well-lit, looking more like a university than an international research facility. Your escorts give you no time to stop and explore the place, explaining that you all will get plenty of time to do so later.

After several minutes walking through the labyrinthine hallways you end up the conference room, a large room with floor-to-ceiling windows to let in plenty of light and give a marvelous view of the facility's robot hangars and surrounding countryside. The room has been set up like a kind of theatre, where several rows of seats face an open area at the front that acts as a stage. Several important-looking people wearing suits and businesswear sit at the back of the 'stage' and talk among themselves as they wait for the session to begin. Among them is Yakov Matveev, world-famous materials scientist and President of the Cold Fusion Initiative, and Olivier Villeneuve, former CEO of Mirabilia Pharmaceuticals and Head of CFI California, leaning so close to each other that their heads almost touch as they hold a whispered argument. Judging by the two technicians struggling to set up a slide projector at the back of the room it'll be a while before the orientation session actually starts. The hum of bored conversation fills the air as the new arrivals sort themselves into small groups and start finding places to sit.

((I hope that this intro isn't too barebones, but this'll give everyone a chance to introduce their characters and greet each other before the game starts proper.))

Ray adjusts his hat, tilting the brim down over her face. He leans back in his chair and crosses her arms behind his head.
((Yes, I'm doing that. Deal with it (unless you actually get confused).))

((We've had one person already confused.))
Iris is just sitting there, wrapping her poncho around herself. It was surprisingly chilly in here, especially for California at this time of year.

Grace sits next to the poncho'd woman and leans over to whisper to her with a thick Irish Brough.
"Who are those people up there?"

Olaf, sitting close enough to them to hear the conversation, decides to butt in.
"That man on the left is Yakov Matveev. He's the head of the Cold Fusion Initiative. I've seen him in the news a lot lately. That stiff on the right though, I've got no idea."

Also, why are you guys concerned about Ray's gender? Their name is male, so obviously the government thinks they're male. It's the rules except Ray is actually Rachel

Iris, who's wedged between the much bigger man and woman, sort of pulls up into her poncho.
"I've only heard of Matveev. I think the other one's the CEO of this branch of the CFI, although I haven't a clue about his name..."

Grace wrinkles her nose in disdain.
"They sound old and stuck up."

Anna is in her chair. Well, 3 chairs, if you count the random mechanical bits on the adjacent chairs as she tinkers around with some small device.

Ray nods to Iris.

Iris looks a little distracted by the device Anna's working on.

She would rather have been in the hangar, helping the maintenance teams work on the robots she probably had helped to construct, after all, but this was mandatory to attend.

She seems to be working on... what the heck is that? Even a seasoned engineer would have no idea. The best guess would be something for a robot, but none of the CFI mechs have anything like that...
