Aha, I see. The issue there is that we're not playing this as an LP. We're just playing together and I sometimes try to make entertaining videos of us. The problem is that we play for LONG periods of time. We only get to play once a week or so, so we usually go for many hours. I used to record everything, but the footage would be 10+ GB for one session, and I literally don't have enough hard drive space to hold that anymore. Add to that the time to edit down all those hours to just the interesting parts, and it can take me 2 weeks to make a single video. So footage is building up more and more until my hard drive is full (which happened several times).
So I decided that I would no longer record everything. We just play, and when it seems like we're about to do something really interesting, I turn on the recording software. I have to record my microphone separately from the video, so I have to start two programs, and I haven't found a way to do that with a hotkey, so it's a bit of a process. Even still, though, my hard drive is perpetually full. I have the Stardew Valley stuff (which I try to edit, upload, and erase quickly, but it's tough to find time), all my games, etc., and lord knows what else which is filling up my hard drive. I suppose I should try to clear it out soon, but again, I can never find the time.
Time to edit is a major issue. I have four different jobs right now (all part time, but it sure does add up), which is why I decided to do the Stardew Valley series - almost no editing required. Snip, snip, fade in, fade out, upload. Minecraft takes ages because I have to actually watch all of it and find the parts which are worth watching. It takes probably twice as long as the actual length of the footage. And that can take weeks just for one play session.
I've found that if I only record some of the time, editing can be reduced and I can keep up with a video a day, still mostly Stardew, but sometimes Minecraft. And more importantly, I can get rid of the footage sooner, and free up space for the next play session.
However, if building is considered a universally interesting thing to watch, I can try to make sure I include that in the future, not just going to new places, combat, etc. I certainly plan on recording the parts where I try to explain the tech mods to mom.
I also have a plan to play in that world a bit on my own. Right now I'm trying to teach mom how to send me the save file so I can play here, then send it back to her for our play sessions together. I'll have more control over what I record in that, and it should be mostly interesting stuff. But it will probably be a long time before I get around to editing and uploading any of that. Again, four jobs, etc.
If I had the time, I'd record and edit everything, but at the moment, it's just not possible. So it is helpful to know which parts I should be recording. Nether - interesting? I hope so. Building? Okay, adding that to the list. Anything else in particular? I will do my best.
