Well, Millenaire didn't work out because it was riddled with bugs and it was continually crashing. So we're trying something new! Hermitcraft from the FTB launcher - and, for the first time, Minecraft 1.10.2...

Don't forget that fruit trees take 28 days to mature and start bearing fruit. And you'll need, I think 10k for one Apple and Pomegranate tree. Although of course you can spread that purchase out a bit. You need 3 apples and 1 pomegranate for bundles if I remember correctly, although I think another bundle can optionally take them as well.

I think you edit out a little too much of the minecraft videos. I know you're just trying to give us the interesting highlights, but a lot of the enjoyment of minecraft for me is seeing things come together and be built. The quick jumps around are a little too disjointed for me to really enjoy everything.

Thanks for the feedback. That's very interesting, actually. We tried doing a series together where I wouldn't cut for the most part and we'd show most of what we did, but it turned out to be SUPER boring, and the feedback I was getting was that people wanted just the highlights. This episode actually probably has fewer cuts than almost any I've done before with the footage with mom. Basically, I just cut out periods of time when we're not talking (that can go on for a while sometimes).

Can I get any other opinions on the cuts? Do you prefer to show pretty much everything (even though that means there will be some dead air for long periods of time when we're not talking), or is it good how it is, focusing on the interesting parts?

Well, that last episode was fine, but it sort of highlighted the issue for me. We went from the previous episode where you sort of wandered around and found a site for your base to suddenly you have a TC smelter and a nether gate. And a bunch of interesting looking equipment. When did all that happen? Why didn't we see any of it?

I think...for me, a lot of basic stuff like simple mining or gathering missions can be cut unless something interesting happens, but the actual base building and progression stuff should be put in. Combat is kind of exciting, but not really the point of minecraft so I don't think it needs to be only thing that sets a section apart as 'interesting enough to show'

Mining can be boring, but cave exploration often isn't. Sitting in a hut all night waiting for monsters to go away in the morning is boring. Building stuff is almost never boring, to me, unless it's something gigantic AND repetitive, like building a huge wall or something like that.

Aha, I see. The issue there is that we're not playing this as an LP. We're just playing together and I sometimes try to make entertaining videos of us. The problem is that we play for LONG periods of time. We only get to play once a week or so, so we usually go for many hours. I used to record everything, but the footage would be 10+ GB for one session, and I literally don't have enough hard drive space to hold that anymore. Add to that the time to edit down all those hours to just the interesting parts, and it can take me 2 weeks to make a single video. So footage is building up more and more until my hard drive is full (which happened several times).

So I decided that I would no longer record everything. We just play, and when it seems like we're about to do something really interesting, I turn on the recording software. I have to record my microphone separately from the video, so I have to start two programs, and I haven't found a way to do that with a hotkey, so it's a bit of a process. Even still, though, my hard drive is perpetually full. I have the Stardew Valley stuff (which I try to edit, upload, and erase quickly, but it's tough to find time), all my games, etc., and lord knows what else which is filling up my hard drive. I suppose I should try to clear it out soon, but again, I can never find the time.

Time to edit is a major issue. I have four different jobs right now (all part time, but it sure does add up), which is why I decided to do the Stardew Valley series - almost no editing required. Snip, snip, fade in, fade out, upload. Minecraft takes ages because I have to actually watch all of it and find the parts which are worth watching. It takes probably twice as long as the actual length of the footage. And that can take weeks just for one play session.

I've found that if I only record some of the time, editing can be reduced and I can keep up with a video a day, still mostly Stardew, but sometimes Minecraft. And more importantly, I can get rid of the footage sooner, and free up space for the next play session.

However, if building is considered a universally interesting thing to watch, I can try to make sure I include that in the future, not just going to new places, combat, etc. I certainly plan on recording the parts where I try to explain the tech mods to mom. :P

I also have a plan to play in that world a bit on my own. Right now I'm trying to teach mom how to send me the save file so I can play here, then send it back to her for our play sessions together. I'll have more control over what I record in that, and it should be mostly interesting stuff. But it will probably be a long time before I get around to editing and uploading any of that. Again, four jobs, etc.

If I had the time, I'd record and edit everything, but at the moment, it's just not possible. So it is helpful to know which parts I should be recording. Nether - interesting? I hope so. Building? Okay, adding that to the list. Anything else in particular? I will do my best.

Haha, I certainly understand HD space and time limitations. :)

So, yeah, hopefully some other people will chime in on what they like, but personally I tend to enjoy exploration and building. And, of course, if you happen to think you're going to have interesting/amusing interactions with your mother.

I hope I wasn't coming off as unhappy or anything. I'm not trying to be critical of what you're doing, and I certainly appreciate the time and effort you put into making videos for us.
