I wonder whether you can adventure as 17000 bees.

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.

Technically no, since you can only control one unit. Theoretically yes, if you somehow manage to recruit 16999 bees to your cause. Practically, no, since that would mean 16999 followers needing to path (assuming the game can even manage pathing vermin to follow the player).

But bees stack in thousands. I've been to a retired fort and picked up Live Honeybee [17000] before. (also proceeded to beat people up with a thousands of bees.) I should try this out.

Bee (item) might stack, but Bee (vermin) probably doesn't. Vermin != items.

Great, now I have the urge to mod in the guy made of bees, just so I can adventure as him.
And incidentally, now I also want to play Kingdom of Loathing again.

I can't even figure out how to make a race playable. Do I have to place [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] at a certain location?

SO did you have to mod in the needles? Or are they in there?
I pulled them off of a tree, only some trees seem to have them though.

I can't even figure out how to make a race playable. Do I have to place [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] at a certain location?
in the entity default file
[ENTITY:WHATEVER]
[INDIV_CONTROLLABLE]
[CREATURE:CREATURENAME]
is the easiest way.

You need to find the most exotic animal pet you can, and then breed a war party of them. Have a beastmaster as your only guardian, wrapped in adamantium with a platinum war hammer that is backed by savage giant beasts from around the world.

Can you even be targeted as a vermin in Adventure Mode?  Can the enemy even attack you?  Could they pick you up and put you in a backpack, the same way you can with other vermin in AM?

You can be targeted, yes. Adventuring as a vermin makes you something between a vermin and a normal creature.

So I could theoretically play as any creature?

Yep

Does this include megabeasts, like dragons?
