Dwarves worshipping bronze colossi?
« on: July 31, 2015, 07:35:59 pm »

Can anyone tell me what causes this?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Using Legends Viewer, I tracked these names down, and they are bronze colossi and rocs.  What the hell?  Never seen a dwarf worship anything other than deities...  The rest of the fortress shares these odd religious habits.

If a megabeast/titan causes enough havoc to a civ in worldgen, certain members of the civ may begin to worship it. It's fairly rare, and I've never seen anyone worship so many, though; your world must have major beast problems.

All Hail Destructor that he may show mercy on us!

I suppose it makes sense but for being such a rare phenomenon maybe its a little too rare?

I have played mostly with high megabeast count worlds lately so I've seen this a lot with incoming historical migrants. A lot of those who had survived a megabeast rampage ended up worshipping the monster in the process. The migrants have to be real historical dwarves from worldgen, though; randomly rolled ones just end up worshiping two random gods from the civ pantheon.

Yeah, this worldmap has two ENORMOUS mountain ranges which take pretty much the whole middle of the continent, and the entire ranges are all Evil.  I also doubled the megabeasts in the world, just for grins.  Everyone in my fort seems obsessed with rocs, though, not colossi... the engravers have put pictures of 5 different rocs everywhere in the fort.

Needless to say, cage traps stand ready for the possibility of roc breeding!

That gets me wondering what would happen if you capture a worshipped being and put him on a bronze chain in the middle of your statue garden? You stand a good chance of finding out. Should either be ecstasy or ontological shock.

I once gave a female companion of mine a bronze collossus corpse/statue so she'd give me my iron longsword back (I'd swapped it for a bronze whip to kill the thing). I then discovered that she worshipped it. And still did, despite carrying around its scarred body in her backpack.

My world has a male and a female roc.

I have already captured the male. It is chained above my prize chamber, below the sparrow eyrie.

My cages and trainers are ready.

Exhibit A: A statue of the mighty warrior Dastot Ekurlibash, felled by the roc Urist Winggem in 209.
Exhibit B: A statue of a rat.
Exhibit C: God.
Exhibit D: A statue of the roc Urist Winggem.

Nice! Just be very careful with it if it's ever killed a member of your civ--even if you train it, in that case, it'll half-think they're still its enemies and occasionally attack your dorfs.

I tried to find out if I have any monster-worshipers in my world; apparently there are none despite all the rampaging during worldgen. What's even more curious is than even regular gods aren't receiving any worship in the Legends. It's like I've inadvertently genned a world full of atheists.

I can see the same phenomenon in my fort, in fact: none of the incoming historical migrants are worshiping any deities from the pantheon. The founding seven do have gods, as do fortress-born babies.

That's why the male is on a chain.

Can now confirm that a dwarf who worships a bronze colossus has no particular reaction when seeing the colossal masterwork dead body set up as a statue in the dining room.

Or a human that is given it and puts it in her backpack.

Anyone ever tried using one as a weapon?
