possible buggy loyalty cascade?
« on: June 27, 2015, 10:47:28 pm »

So, long story short, I had a dwarf who went into a strange mood, which I couldn't find the items for, he goes berserk and I send my military after him. All according to plan right?  Well, not exactly, I sent my marksdwarf squad and my axedwarf squad after him, after which some infighting occured between the axedwarves and the marksdwarves, which resulted in my military commander murdering two dwarves somehow.  Strangely enough, on my Justice screen there are no murder cases or anything, and the wiki has absolutely nothing on this.  So does anyone have any sort of Idea what happened?

sounds like a bug, had similar when i fell a tree with a dwarf on top, falling down on the tree cutter, getting in a fight for some reason then ending up dwarf adults and children joining the heap and half my fortress dying. Im not too experienced and could not determine if it was a "tantrum spiral" or a loyalty cascade, but my dwarves were "fine" (between -100k and 100k stress) throughout the whole incident, so im thinking of it as a bug.
It would be nice if dwarves would jump in to protect their friends and relatives only to the point of protecting / incapacitating, not for viciously murdering everyone. :)

I've had this happen. Once I think I had a loyalty cascade that seemed to arise out of nowhere. Might've been related to a recent migrant belonging to a certain faction...

One thing I think I've noticed is that if it's a loyalty cascade the deaths aren't considered murders, which they are in a tantrum spiral.

"No it's not murder"
"But the indentations in his corpse match your fists perfectly"
"Don't argue with me I feel a tantrum coming on"

It's only murder if you're on the side that loses?

i think defending relatives/friends might be "justified" and acceptable while tantruming isnt.
