Well, positive things are that you can carry more stuff, and you can respawn with your items intact. Negative is that they are more to look after, and they make you more prone to hazards.

Yeah, this is all good. You can mutate later, by random, or by paying a gene mechanic, or maybe if you find the proper work station...  Ill give you these traits:
Positive: Miniature  - +2 to stealth rolls, and can fit in incredibly small gaps.
Negative: Spider mating habits - Eats partner after mating, so can only mate once per partner. (Even though that doesnt apply to all spiders.)
