New Worlds for Star Crusade Mod
« Reply #600 on: October 17, 2015, 11:38:33 am »

Well, I have started working on the new mod that adds the Kurgans and Vuldrok.

I am removing Vril-Ya and Shaduveen and maybe Pandemonium.

Adding the Kurgan World of Hira with the jumplane to Vera Cruz

Adding Hargard with a jumplane to Leminaken

Should I keep Pandemonium or add another Kurgan or Vuldrok World?

Or one of the unclaimed (Rebel) worlds on the map below.

The EFS books have maps of most of the planets.

Here are the choices!

I think Pandemonium should stay as it.
Although the new map will greatly increase the potential space for Decados (no Vau!), Li Halan and Hazat, Al Malik will still stay without any potential worlds, excepting, maybe, hazardous De Moley.

Maybe you should remove Pandemonium, add some fiefs for Decados on Manitou or Apashi (or balance them in different way, as i understand at the moment their key is numerous but bad developed worlds) and add Kordeth? This will give more space to Al Malik to expand, while not harming Decados or Li Halan much.

Also, at the other hand Decados could gain some "outlaw's fiefs" on some rebellious worlds? As I remember from lore they have great power on outlaws and therefore they could gain some fiefs on the most anarchistic planets in-game. This will help them to conduct covert operations and to obtain more intel, this will not harm their current strategy much and will allow to create a new world to replace Pandemonium.

Turn Sent

Lots of options there, Vertab my only concern is that most of them give worlds to the Hawkwood or Hazat on top of Hira and Hargard.

Gollor's suggestion of Kordeth is a good one, that gives more options for "alien" like native rebel units to fight plus more Ukari is never a bad thing. I recall reading that most of the population lives underground so adding another De Moley or Daishan kind of world would be nice to add to the variety of planets.

If I were a masochist I'd say add Abydos and connect it to Hargard and Chernobog but that might be a little too much fun for any future Hawkwood player.

UngaVorox could be added for the Li Halan while also jam packing it with feral Vorox and other horrible aliens that could be fought (and maybe captured) with crazy close combat and agility.

I read online somewhere from a Fading Suns MUD which while not Lore friendly could add Yathrib to Aylon which is the world where Zebulon received his vision and became the Prophet in the holy city of Revelation. I think it is also contested between "Crusaders" made up of holy warriors from every faction versus the Kurgan so that could tension between the Noble Houses trying to divide up the pie.

Edit: If you were really monstrous you add an unclaimed scepter or two and not tell anybody on which world it is. Especially Yathrib.

I am leaning towards Kordeth since it adds another League World and it is linked to Aylon, also I thought about Abydos but having symbiots flood Hawkwood space would make Stigmata pointless.

Edit: I could add Paradise (I think) the lost House Alecto world and add 5 scepters and his heirs that won't to reclaim their Rightful inheritance!!!! In the lore I think their was 10 nobles houses with scepters but they were lost or destroyed over time.

Would be cool, that's the world filled with undead right? It would have to packed with hostile units with such a prize there. Where is Paradise on the jumpweb?

A small postscriptum to my turn.

House Decados has received two scepters as it was agreed.
Imperial Eye has got League and Church heads. Their current location is secret.

Paradise Lost Mod
« Reply #607 on: October 17, 2015, 07:18:40 pm »

Well, I have figured out the last planet it will be Paradise but it is not House Alecto but House Justinian.

Problem is that I haven't found any lore that says where the jump lanes where that connected to it.  If I don't find the details I am thinking maybe a jump lane going downward from Pyre.

House Justinian

Once one of the Royal Ten, now a minor House. House Justinian, closely allied to House Alecto, lost severely after Vladimir's assassination. Now closely allied with House Hawkwood they endeavour to consolidate what few estates and resources they have left. House Justinian's own home planet of Paradise is now lost to the Empire's fall, a planet holding several voting sceptres should they ever rediscover it. House Justinian claims descent from the original Justinian Knights of Byzantine and Teutonic Sovereignty.

The house is currently ruled by the Marquis Argus Justinian who is a traditionalist. His daughter, the Princess Dame Carolandra Justinian, opposes the conservative nature of her father's rule and is the leader of the so-called "Young Turks" who seek to promote a new order in the house.

In addition to claimed ownership of Paradise, the house currently occupies fiefs on Midian, where it helps the Li Halan administer the rustic Redwood and Voro fiefs. On Ravenna, House Justinian run a Deep Core City in Folari South. On Delphi, the family controls the entire continent of Courai, and the Doloria City Region on Virigo Minor

Elector Rod Math from Fading Suns Lore
« Reply #608 on: October 17, 2015, 07:21:53 pm »

I used this as my justification for adding Imperial Scepters to Paradise.

Emperor Vladimir Alecto created and distributed 40 Elector Rods to the 10 Royal Houses, the Church and the League. Where are they all today?

Initial Distribution

Initially, one imagines that Vladimir gave them out equally to the Royal Houses, 3 to each of the Ten, and then 5 each to the League and the Church. That sets up an initial distribution:

    House Alecto: 3
    House al-Malik: 3
    House Decados: 3
    House Gesar: 3
    House Hawkwood: 3
    The Hazat: 3
    House Justinian: 3
    House Li Halan: 3
    House Van Gelder: 3
    House Windsor: 3
    Church: 5
    League: 5

We know today that there are only 35 Elector Rods -- five have been lost - and that the League, at least, still possesses only five. (MotJW 16)

Extinct Houses

One of the five lost rods can be accounted for through House Alecto; we know that at a vote scepter was destroyed when Vladimir's flagship crashed into the sun. (S&R 116) One of Alecto's other two rods might have gone to the Hazat; the Alecto controlled land on what are now the Hazat worlds, and we're told that the Hazat were the primary aggressors and inheritors of House Alecto's wealth, though they were unable to capitalize upon their acquisitions. (LotKW 53) Alecto's last rod may have simply been lost in the fighting over the house's remnants or may have been destroyed, as we're told that one other scepter besides Vladimir's is thought to have been destroyed entirely.

Much of House Windsor was absorbed by House Hawkwood (LotKW 18) -- it's not unreasonable to believe that the Hawkwood inherited the Windsor scepters, too.

We know very little about House Gesar, and so it is perhaps convenient to name the Gesar as the source of the three still-unaccounted for rods. The Gesar met their end on Byzantium Secundus; hub of intrigue that it is, their rods may have been seized by secret societies, smuggled to a Lost World by Gesar loyalists or just have disappeared into the maze of the throneworld's enormous cities. It is also possible that Gesar's rods were seized by other houses who lost their rods in similar situations -- Justinian could have seized a Gesar rod, for instance, only to have that rod disappear when their home planet of Paradise became a lost world.

Fallen Houses

Two former Royal Houses are now minor houses, and no minor houses still possess elector rods. In the case of House Van Gelder, it is easy to imagine that they gave House Decados their scepters when the latter house brought the Van Gelders into the fold.

Finally, we are explicitly told that House Justinian traded its elector rods to the Church in exchange for protection. (LotKW 106)

Distribution Today

With those explanations, the present distribution of elector rods is as follows:

    Church: 8
    League: 5
    House Hawkwood: 6
    House al-Malik: 3
    House Li Halan: 3
    House Decados: 6
    The Hazat: 4

This is a problematic distribution, however: we're told that the Advocates (those who voted for Alexius) numbered 23 of 35, but these numbers seem to stack up so that the Church, League, Hawkwood, Li Halan and al-Malik instead have 25. How to explain this?

One possibility is that the Church votes are split: instead of the Patriarch controlling all eight elector rods, he controls only three (the three the Justinian gave to him). The other rods are controlled by the various metropolitans, who during Vladimir's time seemed more neutral (as their metropolitae would have neccessarily covered the territories of several houses) than they do now, where their intrests align so directly with the five Royal Houses. If this is the case, the Church might have voted as follows:

    Patriarch: 3 for Alexius
Metropolitan of Delphi: 1 for Alexius
Metropolitan of Criticorum: 1 for Alexius
Metropolitan of Kish: 1 for Alexius
    Metropolitan of Cadavus: 1 against
    Metropolitan of Aragon: 1 against

This then neatly leaves the Advocates 23 to 12 for Alexius, the two-thirds majority the Great Charter requires. While there are other possibilities, they are less neat and beg more questions - for instance, the Hazat could have stolen an elector rod from the Hawkwood during their raid on Leminkainen, or the League could have hedged their bets by voting 3 and 2 instead of all in favor of Alexius. More recent explanations for the division seem like they would have been mentioned, however.

That's quite a lot of research, how many rods did you add? And what do you think Paradise looks like?

Three rods and like the name said it is suppose to be a paradise, but unlike most EFS Lore worlds there are no maps of the world that I have found yet, so I could do about anything.

I'll pre-emptively inform Vertab that it's going to take a while before I get this finished. These turns have lately become as involved as a part-time job. It takes hours, and I actually need to take breaks.
I wish I was better organised, or less of a perfectionist.

I suppose I might be able to send it tonight.

Turn sent, but!

OOC: IMPORTANT
Guys, I might have found a potentially game-breaking issue/bug. You know those non-combatant transports that give you money? Obun vessels, smugglers and liners?
It is impossible to attack them.

I had some suspicions something was off when fighting the League, so I went and did some tests.
Turns out, the above mentioned ships, together with any cargo they might be carrying, are completely immune from space-based fire. They don't even show on the combat screen.
This includes PTS fire.

Let me reiterate: every money-producing ship can't be attacked.

This is obviously a major issue, as I assume most of us have their cargo fleets composed predominantly of those ships. Furthermore, at this stage, it is not as simple as disbanding the offending ships - these are not a few assassins that we'll hardly miss, but an integral part of anyone's strategy, and they can't be easily replaced.

We need to decide what to do with this problem. The way it is, it might be as bad as completely destroying whatever strategic build-up happened these past 20 turns.

Well that blows.

Vertab: For future updates to the mod would adding something like 10/1 close space attack re-enable them to be attacked do you think?

While it would be disruptive we could park each of our ships onto our planets and just not use them, at least they will still be able to produce money for us and we won't be tempted to use them as transports. I'm fairly confident at this point that I could re-build much of my transport fleet within 5 turns using nothing but haulers, freighters. Although my finances would be all sorts of screwed.

We could just imagine they are passively traveling the jumpwebs or somesuch?

I was a little suspicious too when I landed a casino liner next to a League PTS supported with 3 space fighters and only the fighters showed up on the screen to be attacked.

It is fixed in the update 3.4g I am working on, I think the only solution now is to make a rule not to use them in invasions but only for peace time transport.  Invasions would have to be composed of landers, bulk haulers, and freighters.  I am not land or disbanding all of these ships that have been built.
