Let's Play 5by5craft: Episode 5
« on: June 09, 2015, 05:51:09 am »

So I've decided to try my hand at a minecraft youtube video series. If all goes according to plan I'm be uploading one video a week. Hopefully the next one takes half as many hours to publish as this one did. It took over ten hours to produce a six minute video. So, apologies if episode 1 is a little rough. It will probably get better. Watch to the end for the bay12 shoutout.

For those wondering about the name change, I wanted my youtube channel and minecraft character name to match, and apparently somebody already took LordBucket.*shrug*

Episode list
Episode 1: The hunt for (0,0)
Episode 2: Building with Hermaphroditic Sheep
Episode 3: Stores and pumpkins and dragons, oh my!
Episode 4: Pigmen and tunnel design
Episode 5: Brightest pyramid in minecraft ever

About the server
5by5craft is a whitelisted (mostly) vanilla minecraft server running with a fresh 1.8 world reset on June 1st, with a 6000x6000 tile map inside a fixed world border. Coreprotect and LWC are active, and pvp is consensual only.

Feedback is welcome. As are praise and bribes. I accept cashier's checks, gold bullion and virgins. I know there are some audio issues with the video. Seriously...ten hours.

Also, anyone who wants to join me on the server, feel free to submit a whitelist request on reddit. New server only a week old, haven't even killed the dragon yet. And the previous map reset lasted nearly two years, so if you like vanilla this is a good chance to get in early on a server that's likely to last a while.

Episode 2: Building with Hermaphroditic Sheep

Now that I've a little more experience making videos, this went more smoothly. Instead of taking ten hours to make a 6 minute video, it took me 6 or 7 hours to make a 13 minute video.

In this episode, much building! Many sheep! A few creepers. And sheep! Also, sheep. And did I mention sheep?

By the way, can anyone explain to me how to make the video quality not terrible? In episode 1 I used an xvid encoder with maximum possible quality setting. Result was blurry. This episode I tried following the youtube best practices guidelines and I went out of my way to record inthe preferred dimensions, but the video quality seems a bit lower to me. This is a 542 meg file on my computer, and it did not look that bad until I uploaded it to youtube.

I'm not going to lie LordBucket, this series was rather stunning for me. From what I'd gathered from your forum posts, you were basically Logictron 5000 come to bestow knowledge, and naught else. But you have revealed your human side at last!

A good series so far, well edited and interesting to watch. Your wry humor amused me (Step Four of building an automated farm) and I'm looking forward to next episode, although I appreciate it probably takes a while to make these because you edit the boring stuff out. ^_^

Keep it up dude! :D

Yay, viewers!

I can see that angle, but would it surprise you to know that I've attended user meets and conventions and that somewhere out there on the web there are a couple videos[1] of me being defeated by the power of love and bad singing in front of 15,000 people?

[1] Better angle, poorer video quality version here

Thank you. Yes, the editing does take some time. Hopefully it gets faster. Plan is to release one video every week, at least so long as I feel that people are watching them. Projects like this live or die on audience participation.

So you're doing your civic duty and a good deed by posting. Thank you. :)

Episode 3: Stores and pumpkins and dragons, oh my!

Fight vs three ender dragons! Also possibly my first all-wood construction. Go watch!

Episode 4: Pigmen and tunnel design

In this episode, rather than build a pyramid, we're slaughtered and spawn camped by a horde of angry pigmen, and design an aesthetically pleasing but nevertheless functional nether tunnel. Also a speedway ice race test.

Episode 5: The brightest pyramid in minecraft, ever

In this episode we kill a wither and finally build the pyramid at Overworld(0,0). Watch to the end for pictures from the comic con trip that kept me from releasing a video last week.
