LW2 version 1.1 seems to have dropped.

PTW, got the base game from Humble Bundle. Is it worth playing through once before getting Long War 2?

Might be, since LW2 doesn't even reveal a core auto-loss mechanic from the base game until after you'd have lost if you ignored it.

In other news... It really wo-orks~

That's the sword. The other modifier isn't half-bad either, but it kinda pales in comparison.

How exactly does Dodge work, compared to defense?

Dodge increases the chance that a successful hit becomes a Graze. Grazes deal less damage and iirc cannot crit.

I honestly think that XCOM2 is better than Long War 2.
I mean, LW2 is still fun and worth playing, but overall, XCOM2 is a better experience. It's always weird seeing those people that say you should play through LW2 immediately after buying XCOM 2 and not bother with the vanilla version.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Both LW and LW2 were made with the clear design intent of playing their respective games first. The learning curve of Long War is inherently derived from someone starting off with full tactical competence of the base game.

A lot of people...

Heck I often do because Tutorials are often the slowest more tedious thing ever!

"Press Left Mouse Button to Swing"
*Five minutes later*
"Press Right Mouse Button to Block"
Me: "Yes Thank you... I think I could have figured that out... can we pick up the pace a bit?"

Once in arround you find a game where the tutorial is awesome and fun, off the top of my head I can think of the civ4 tutorial.

Well, except for the animated talking head, but that was mostly able to be toned out.

Well I am not trying to be cool (I know your sarcastic)

It is more that tutorials are often anti-fun... and even more often do not show you everything you need to play anyway... or worse the game has multiple tutorials and playing it just means you get both of them.

It is usually more fun and faster to just read the key bindings.

Dodge can turn a crit into a normal hit, a normal hit into a graze, and a graze into a miss, IIRC. Basically a successful dodge drops the attack down a step.

Total War Atilla's tutorial is amazing. Also ridiculously hard.

How they expected noobs to the series to learn anything when they have to fight 4 times their numbers three times is beyond me but it is glorious.

I get you, but sometimes tutorials are helpful in that they can give tactical advice you wouldn't get just by reading the keybinds. And not every tutorial is anti-fun. For example, Long War and Long War 2 have some pretty entertaining (if long) tutorials.
