The Retaliation mission I just ran was easily the toughest and luckiest in this campaign so far.

On the one hand, I had to deal with a Retaliation mission vs. packs full of Berserkers in Predator armor and Gauss weapons. And then had the Berserker Queen show up with the second pod I ran into.

On the other, an incredible sequence of luck let me win the mission with no deaths, eliminating the Queen in the process. All sorts of stuff. My ranger getting Salvo a while back, the sniper landing two(!) pistol executions on a Berserker and Faceless, both times directly preventing a squadmate from dying, both the ranger and grenadier getting knocked into bleedout instead of being killed, and the rookie landing a crucial hail-mary shot that ended the mission before the grenadier bled out.

Kind of annoyed voice overs don't work with 5.1 sound in XCOM2.

I'm a little confused about Dark Events. Is there a Guerilla Mission for each Dark Event and you just, like, need to locate it? The whole "you must choose one" thing is confusing to me because you don't get multiple missions to choose from. I know enough to know that having a flying saucer hunting you is bad m'kay. But how do I find the Guerrilla Mission to prevent it?

Also a little disappointed at the voice selection. I appreciate they sound different based on the soldier's personality but....I'd prefer to have a couple Japanese, Russian and African voice overs instead.

You can only get one guerilla mission per region, so you won't get a guerilla mission for each dark event until you have three regions.

(I may be slightly wrong in the specifics, but either way you need to expand to get a mission for each event.)

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

CW beat me to the punch; once you have three regions, it's your pick. You can also rarely get to counter more than one by a certain hack reward that delays the Dark Events trigger by two weeks.

As for voices, fortunately there's mods. For a while, the Recent Mods section was like 90% voicepacks. For instance, my current run of EXALTCOM has, obviously, a bunch of EXALT voices and a dedicated combat hacker using the GLA Saboteur voice.

Honestly, DEs are kind of disappointing, because there's an Avatar Project Breakthrough in most of the picks, and that trumps everything else, since you can only actually set it back by a couple one-off actions, facility destruction is just damage control. And I personally find UFO Hunt to be quite a good event unless half your soldiers have been Seriously Wounded just a mission ago, it's an XP mine.

I'm pretty sure Avatar Project DE points actually get added to facilities, and thus are temporary so long as you can do a facility strike.

I think the facility progress wasn't 'stored' in them, destroying one just gives you a set number of pips down the progress thing. So, if it's like, two, destroying a facility that's already gotten 3 pips of research will still be a net loss, and only the five-ish story-related decrements are only other way to get it lower. I may be wrong though.

I am certain that, even if DE points don't go to facilities, that otherwise all points gained by a facility are kept by it and are lost upon its destruction. One early game I had a facility with something like five points, watching that drain away was glorious.

Well Steven was supposed to copy them them but it takes such a long time and it was almost 5 o'clock.

I bet they were surprised when they opened the backup.zip file the day after the strike and found it to contain nothing but a text file saying "i'll do this tomorrow lol" and 607 gigaspacebytes of snektit porn.

No luck on Africa, but there are mods for Russian, Polish, and Japanese voices. The first two are just Firaxis voices that weren't used, but the Japanese voice pack gives something like 8 distinct (and properly volume-adjusted) voices for each sex.

I got the Japanese one.

But I think the "international voice pack" fucked up my sound, because I swear it was all playing in 5.1 until I installed that.

All other voice packs are just rips from series and tv shows, and hearing Darth Vader or 70% of the cast from Archer in my game doesn't really do anything for me.

Anyways, XCOM2's geoscape is so much more satisfying to work with than XCOM1's. Even though I do feel like half the stuff you can do is just an invitation to waste a lot of time for minimal rewards. XCOM was pretty restrictive in what you needed to build to not get steamed rolled, and somehow I feel like XCOM 2 might be worse in that regard but less obvious about it.

Just got the game and started streaming a new campaign using the whole Jagged Alliance cast with their voice packs.

So far it's great because I got enough memorable characters to last a campaign. The JA mercs feels completely at home in XCOM2.

Then I get some that's, XCOM and some baby too.

What is impressive is that they managed to get 0,73 kills per turn regardless.
