Shilleka pulled a face at Taft, having heard his mumbling.
"Sez der shor'y 'oo can't e'en do ma'ic."

She turned back to Alicia. She tapped her book, and drew out a long string of nebulous dark energy that pulsed sickly.

"I ain' seen annoder per'on 'oo ooses ma'ic li' me, 's true. Yer all readin' books an' stuff. I ain' doin' dat. Yer jus' gra' der ma'ic wi' yer min' an' 'and, use me darlin' 'at as, li', a..." She made a hand gesture, not knowing the word for what she was wanting to say. "'Til it smells righ', bu' it ain' a smell, righ'? An den I pick i' up an' chuck it a' der en'my."

She closed a fist and the energy dissipated.
"I c'n smell der ma'ic of yer boo', kinda. 's all... red."

"I didn't say anything."

"Hm... that's a very interesting way of using magic. Was this just something you could just... do, or did it take practice?"

"Well apart from it's color being red, that might be the fact it's a fire tome."

"Nat'rally ta'ented, I am. Bu' it too' me a coup' t'ies 'fore it woul' wor' rigt'. Det ma'ic kept dis'patig or 'splodin an' stuff li' dat."

"Heh, that happens even if you actually read the spells the first few times."

"Honestly, it actually is kind of amazing that you *can* do it like that. Do you think you could possibly do it without tomes, if that's how you do it?"

"Heheh. 'm jus' amazin' in gen'ral, ain' I?"

"D'no. Dere's a few t'ings I c'n do widdou' tomes, li' der floatin'. I c'n try ter focus der ma'ic widdou' der tome, but der t'ing doesn' wor' righ'."

The lifted a hand and focused. The eyesockets of the skull flared briefly, and a few motes of dark energy rose from her palm.

"See? It's missin' summin'."

"Anything without it is kind of impressing, to me. I can't even make a spark without my tome." She blinks as the skull lights up. "Hm. Is your skull maybe magical in some way? I can't think why it'd glow like that."

"'oo knows?" she said airily, waving a hand. "Me 'at 's impor'an', t'ough. 's p'obly more impor'an' ter dis crew den Taffy."
She gave it a loving pat.

Taft slurped his soup loudly to get Shilleka's attention and casually extended his middle finger from the ones that were gripping the bowl in an obvious gesture.

Alicia makes a quiet sound, attempting to not laugh out loud. Most people she knew until recently were far more serious than this group.

Alaria was found sitting outside in a courtyard, staring up at the sky.

"Ah, hello. Did you need something?"

Shilleka leaned back and grinned smugly at Taft.

"'nyt'ing else, girlie?"

"From an academic perspective, no. I'm curious though, as to why you're with a group of thieves. You don't really seem like someone who'd particularly care about money."

"Dis is mor' fun, yeah? An dere's sumt'ing 'm loo'in' fer, an' I dun t'ink der ol' mages wou' like me ter jus' wa' off wi' dere fancy tomes."
