This is OOC Thread for new applicants and lore questions and whatever else you might want to talk about v:

Game Thread is here!

This game will be about politics; both public in the front of your fellow Towers, as well as the backstage politics, where bribery, assasinations or even mere slander can forever change the political landscape of the Ragona. The Council of the Towers of the City of Ragona is made of 41 Towers (PCs + NPCs), the Master of the Coin, The Highest Judge, The Chief of the City Centurii, and Senex Princeps who leads the Council. The titled characters start as NPCs but nothing keeps a PC to get their hands on the title - one way or another.

The Goal of the Council is to lead the Ragona through times of both peace and war... but each Tower has only one dream - to become Senex Princeps, or take a step further - and become the Dictator of Ragona. As the latter can be achieved only during times of crisis, or military/popular uprising, it will need a lot of time, patience and skill at politics to reach this title.

The game is made of three parts:

Morning - Introduction of Current Topics and Discussion of the Matters.
In this phase, which lasts ~24 hours, the Senex Princeps presents current matters and the Towers are free to discuss them. Here, players can discuss the daily matters, RP with others and so on.

Afternoon - Council Vote:
In this phase, which lasts 12 to 24 hours, every Tower, be it player or NPCs, vote on several matters at hand. Each vote by a player has to be made public, but a Tower can abstain from voting on particular issue or not vote at all during this particular day. Players who fail to post their vote will be treated as if they simply abstained.

Night - It is Dark and Full of Dangers:
During this phase, which lasts 12 to 24 hours, every Tower can send to GM (Haspen) their 2 Hidden Actions. These can be varietes of anything from simple to elaborate tasks. Your servants can spy on the opponents, slander them, perform nefarious deeds or start a plot or seek supports from the outside or hinder the operations of your opponents' affiliates, or even kill other Towers. On other hand, you can also send your servants to investigate a seemingly random crime, escort someone or send them on diplomatic mission, or just tell them to protect your household - which, considering your fellow, ambitious Towers, might be a wise precaution to take...

After this, the game is paused for a while while GM processes Hidden Actions and sends private messages to players; these might contain Hidden Action results, infromation or orders from Affiliated groups, or other things.

To enter the game, you need the following:
Name: (+username)
Family Name: different players can be members of the same family; parent-child relation is not allowed, but cousins, step/half-siblings or even full siblings are perfectly fine.
Family Trait: Of these there are 4: Powerful, which means you have military forces independent from Ragona garrison; Scheming, which allows you to perform one extra Hidden Action per night; Popular which makes the citizenry and NPCs favor you a bite more; and Wealthy which makes foreign powers, traders and guilds more interested in doing 'business' with you.
Affiliation: This is your affiliation to one of the powerful groups in Ragona. These are:
Guild of Root and Powder: A century old guild that deals in spices, perfume, dyes and medicine trade. It is incredibly wealthy and well-known guild, but it keeps low profile in politics.
The Turquoise Fellowship: A guild that is almost as wealthy as Guild of Root and Powder; it also tries it chances in politics, and is very close to the Ningard Court, a foreign power.
Ragona's Centuria: The garrison and judges of the Ragona; always underpaid and underappreciated, they however offer the backing of the military and the law in times of need, should they arise.
The Cult of the Black Sun: A huge cult that appeared in the east over three centuries ago. It offers comfort to the smallfolk and provides viable source of 'little help of various kind' for the nobility.
[Your Family]: Instead of affiliating with another group, you work to establish your family as major power in the Ragona and beyond it. You are not in favor with any guild or nation, but affiliating with your Family allows you to pick 2nd Family Trait.

In addition to the traits and affiliations, the GM will send each new Player a set of few 'background' details; for example  that the father of Player X killed his/her sibling, or that mother of Player Z had an affair with your uncle, or that your have old friends/enemies in this guild or that foreign power, or that your father have made you promise to accomplish 'something' on his deathbed... just to stir things up a little.

Centuria numbers about two thousand freemen soldiers plus four hundred various auxiliaries (stable boys, smiths, cooks, doctors etc).

Normal villa has about 5-10 guards, Powerful gets that amount to about 50.

Are all votes going to require a mere simple majority, or will there be ones that need at least a 60% majority or something like that to succeed?

Can we amend the city's constitution? Also can I suggest warping time so that the "meet-vote-stab" interval cover more than one day? As things stands, it'll take 180 turns before that loan is paid back, and I doubt the game will last that long. 1 vote/week might make more sense.

Now that I think about it, that is a very good point. What kind of weird parliament meets once a day? Things happen fast, I'll grant you, but not that fast.

I seem to recall that it was 1 week per Council cycle, and that "day/afternoon/night" was a game construct only.

Although maybe I dreamt that out of whole cloth or something

1 week (or even month) per sounds a good time.  Enough space for things to properly happen.

I'd say two turns/month would be ideal.

Indeed. The night shall be long indeed in that case!

So, I'm not a master of timezone magic, but the night phase should probably be over by now right?

Is there a signal for when Night phase turns into Process phase? Maybe we're already in it?
*a1s makes a poor imitation of Twilight Zone music*

I am also very much in support of enforcing (Moring/Day) phase length- it encourages the council to form executive committees/ministers instead of making everything into a massive discuss-fest. (this, historically, is why the title of Dictator existed)
