Don't worry, I killed a man building a wall next to a bridge because he tried to build a section of the wall that wasn't supported first instead of building it outwards from the wall like an intelligent creature.
Yup, and I dehydrated a gem cutter by forgetting which tiles of a workshop can't be walked on.

Founded a new settlement!

This will be a brave new outpost, productive and.... what do you mean there's no iron?

Dammit. This must be the fifth time in a row. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if Armok just hates me. You know, more than he hates everybody else.

There's always goblinite, or if you play without invaders, importing (maxing out the sliders in the trade agreement, for) iron bars, pig iron bars, steel bars, iron anvils and steel anvils will go a surprising long way towards keeping you stocked with steel. If you're really a wholesale user, you can also buy every iron / steel item the carvan brings. If that's even not enough, you can buy iron and steel bolts and setup a bolt split range.

Having no flux stone on a map hurts more than having no iron. You can only import a few dozen pieces at most of those every year.

Eh, I know all that. But I'm sick of playing non-iron maps. It's probably got something to do with the site-search parameters I use.

At Kingsilver, after the disappointing 2 goblin siege, it now faces a grander threat...  75 strong goblin forces!

Being honest, I kinda had a moment of unadulterated fear once I saw how many there were.

Update:  The fort...  it has fallen...  Though about twenty have been neutralized through cages and whatnot, they were too many, and the fort was overwhelmed, and the military was crushed decisively by the goblins.

Curse thee, trolls!  Curse thee, Beak dogs!  Curse thee, goblins!

Seriously, specifying images is the best.

Has image control for engravings been implemented yet? I want to have a dwarf make an engraving of himself making an engraving of himself, possibly while looking in a mirror for reference.

Hmmm.  I actually thought of renaming a dwarf, but it turns out there aren't dwarven words for "North" (that is, by way of the Normans) or "Well".  Bit of a shame, that, especially since it'd actually fit the naming structure of (Noun) (X-Noun) perfectly.

You can specify engravings, but nesting them is a little awkward. The best you can do is to keep appending "Urist McEngraver is engraving Urist McEngraver" until you get bored.

I've transferred my 42.04 save to 42.06 successfully just in time for autumn, and traded away thousands in rags vintage clothes -- padded with a gift of quite a few masterwork platinum, gold, and silver jeweled figurines.  Hopefully now, the fort being 15 years old, I can start to acquire some nobility as an outlet for all this extravagance.    I've gotten a potter and a glassmaker nearly to legendary, just through traded sand and glass.  My only worry is if I become the mountainhome, I won't be able to request large amounts of those things to keep up the training.

My secret hope is that now I will get human caravans who might carry some blade weed.  I already grow the other three dyes, and it would give me such a feeling of satisfaction.

OK, so I get a lot of visitors. Like, a LOT. The tavern and library need expanding because people keep getting enraged at the crowding. So when another human visitor was announced, I was like *yawn*. But something caught my eye.

Nice. very subtle. Let's have a look at you...

Seriously? Not enough that you waltz in saying "Hey I'm a vampire, don'tchaknow!", but you wear a crown of human nails, just to drive the point home?

Oh well. It feels a bit cheesy, but since I already know you're a vampire... better sic the militia on her.

That might not actually be true. (It probably is though)

Don't humans have something in the raws enabling them to turn fallen foes into trophies?

"Nice to meet you. What's your name and profession?"
"Racon Gikialir, Vam..."
"What?"
"Va...mmerlord. Hammerlord. yeah, that's what I said!"
"Are you sure? Because it almost sounded like-"
"No, nothing! I'm a hammerlord, you see? Hammer!"
"... fine. Welcome to the fortress. Call the guards, I have something important to tell them. Have a nice day!"
