My human fortress was menaced by an enraged badger boar.  It chased down my workers.  This made me mad, so I told everyone to punch it to death.  I was good with the miner's uniform, so it killed it in two blows.  :)

In my human fortress, work is coming along nicely on the first house, which will serve as a dormitory until the rest are built.  I am allowing no migrants yet.

Currently channeling everything to ground level, so the map is all flat. I'll have a castle, sitting atop an underground city.

One day before autumn, my game crashes, after I spent twenty minutes lining everything up and getting plans ready above and below ground. Yep, moving on to a new world...

Adventurers are a strange sort, while discussing stuff over there someone made a half-joking suggestion of turning wagons into bees and I had an idea.

"Hmmm, I've got this fort I'm using to figure out how to fake artifact creation and it has a wagon and an ant colony on the map... I could turn those into honey bees and try to do this."

What could go wrong?

Huh... two sieges, and that's it, for me in 4 years... one of which was a bunch of humans.

I may actually be attacking hell soon... nobody seems to post anything about siege weaponry, is it effective? Against demons?
Siege Weaponry is actually FAR less effective than you would think.
Ballista fire tends to be subpar at best against soft targets, unless you tip your ballistae with metal arrowheads and use a very heavy wood, and even then they are fairly underwhelming, and that's just against small races such as elves/goblins/humans and the like. Keep in mind that Clowns average 167x larger than a dwarf. Catapaults need space to work, and you generally don't have that kind of space versus clowns, but if you have the space then they are decent if you have heavyish stone to work with and are fighting fairly unstable variants.

Year 9 dawns at Earthscrape. The human ambassador arrives, followed by two sweating swordsmen and, a short distance behind, 55 goblins and 20 trolls howling for blood. The ambassador cowers in the main hall while the battle is joined, his guards lurking behind the cages of Dobermans at our main gates. The archers get some, the scatter of field traps get more, and the melee squad, coated with gore, finished the rest. The ambassador takes a while to leave. The thigh-deep collection of body parts in front of the gates may have made for poor footing.

The elf invasion force that followed came up, looked at the gates, and left after a brief conference amongst themselves.

Oh, and the miners have mostly finished the new tombs/temple to Armok (Praise Ye, Armok!)

With a missing leg and hand, my captain of the guard managed to put the one crossbow bash that killed the goblin demon leader. Wow, cool guy. The leader's giant otter mount killed the captain of the guard directly after though.

Not gonna lie, one of the things keeping me from retiring this fortress due to excessive boredom is the crazy amount of moods im getting (15 at time of post), some amazing, some weird, some wealth bombs and some just plain useless:
Amazing (pretty sure this saved my first Macelord from losing his legs during the great undead siege. Also, a legendary armorsmith is always excellent);
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Weird;
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Wealth bomb (damn dwarves stealing my raw adamantine! I need that for armor so we can kill things with impunity!)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Useless (Also a possession, so not even a legendary crafter from it) >:(
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And oh goody, another one;
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit: I just had to say something about boredom...

Ah, yes, at last, my engraver has begun to engrave himself engraving images of himself engraving images. Perfect. All according to plan. Yes. This pleases me.

Just had a fight against a were rhino Lico Ecenpathril or Lico Oakpet in his human form, thanks to my glorious military of 4 they were able to kill the night creature with only one casualty. This were rhino had killed off my first military of two hammer dwarves on his first visit to the fortress, although they bought time for the rest of my fort to get to safety, his second visit only killed a far ranging fisherdwarf before he walked off. It was determined to make this the last visit

My militia commander Stakud Ibelshorast, who wears the artifact leather cloak Ethadstigil, the Decent Jaws, as a sign of her status fell in battle after having her throat bit out by the creature, Lico was latched on tightly and shaking his head all the while, ripping her throat to shreds. However Lico made a fatal error, this is exactly were Stakud wanted him, a place where he could not run from her axe. Already heavily injured by her and the others in the military, the first blow by the now heavily bleeding Stakud was in the left upper arm, tearing apart the muscle and severing the motor nerve.

Angry Lico shakes Stakud around by her throat, tearing open another artery in her neck, making this two of them.

Her underling Zan Eshtandural punchs Lico in the gut to make him let go of his commander, succeeding in his goal. Desperately Lico tries to attack Stakud once more but misses.

Bleeding out and with not much time left in her life, she looks at Lico with a bloody grin, lashing out with her steel battle axe into the left leg of Lico, cutting it off and finaly felling the beast that has plauged the town of Rimtarelis for over a year now.

The last things Stakud says before she dies from blood loss are as follows.

"Those Injuries... This does not Scare me."

"Death is all around us. I am not upset by this"

"I've been wounded. No, that's not annoying."

After seeing her death and shrugging off her injuries, a final smile at the hulking dead body of the wererhino Lico, Stakud passes away on the field of battle, confident in knowing her sacrifice saved the fortress and the fleeing civilians.

For her valor she will be buried with full honors and her deeds recorded on the a slab in the Hall of Memories.

The last time I saw the stray war grilla, he was chasing a wild boar around the pit in circle.
Then I noticed the message about his missing and found the blown apart gorilla at the bottom of the pit.

As a Weremammoth showed up in my fort, a Wereskink transformed in the fort. Luckily, he was fighting in the caverns, and the few blind cave ogres he was fighting managed to beat him down. The weremammoth, however, was hard to kill. I shot a glumprong+steel bolt right at him, which ripped a motor nerve, but not much else. He lost the use of a hand. After punching one of my dwarves into a pile of mush, my militia commander with his artifact steel morningstar pierced it's brain. Dead, finally, it's dead. It seemed to prefer punches over biting, luckily, and the cave ogres that fought the Wereskink left the map... They got bitten. So will they transform into Wereskinks later on, in other parts of the world?

Many HTML tags work, including the normal <img> tags; that one was broken because of the included title text.
