...and alas, my fort falls again.  This time, my military went into werebear form after getting bit, and summarily massacred my fort.  At least I got the original monster that gave my fort grief.  A shame more are running amok under Armok's gaze.

Well, that was fun.

Just embarked, and...

I have a feeling this won't be one of my longer lasting forts. Apparently this is his lair.

EDIT: 2 minutes in...

Ouch.  Wondering if you're going to re-embark there with intents on getting revenge on that zombie.

The undead water buffalo cannot be stopped.
This is one of those quotes here.

"Dwarf Fortress: The Undead Water Buffalo cannot be stopped."

Apparently the gf pictured it in skates at a roller derby... I adore her.
Quote
How does an undead water buffalo grab a dwarf by the back teeth with its rear right leg and throw them? Answer: It hates the living just that much.
Un-life ah...ah... finds a way.

The cave dragons and giant cave swallows are laying again. This time I modded in a child state (10 years) for cave dragons, so I should be able to tame them now.

There is a deity (not a diet-y, as those have to do with ways of life and food) named Atast Ganadust, which translates to "Bravery Specialbreach."  She's associated with persuasion.  Does she persuade brave dwarves to breach the special metal?  Hmm...

This used to be a well balanced world:

Civilized World Population

   245 Dwarves
   240 Humans
   275 Elves
   222 Goblins
   216 Kobolds

   Total: 1198

And now:

Civilized World Population

   559 Dwarves
   638 Humans
   155 Elves
   268 Goblins
   353 Kobolds

   Total: 1973

Kobold's are doing well, good on ya!

Also tried to get a fast dug fort set up in one of the most impressive natural features I've found, named it Heavenstabbed, startdwarf 20, dug it out, set up multiple stairs, made use of the lower levels for the living and such, got the big workshop room dug out and designated, was setting up the upper stockpiles and it crashed with the last save being just before I had gotten all the stockpiles and workshops and routes set up. Blah, I'll get back to it later.

Why did I call it Heavenstabbed?

I deliberately chose the embark so the wagon landed right in front of this:

Got an adventurer that's been running around jumping over mountain ranges and such so it'll be interesting to see how the engravings turn out when I feel like redoing the stocks and such.

We're at war with the elves to the south so I intend to turn the upper section into a barracks and engrave the whole mountain.

That is impressive all right.  How did that happen?

Just a quirk of setting my elevation to 90 ~ 400, variation to 3200 by 800 I think, and demanding a 17x17 map have 10 peaks, it sifts through and ends up with a cluster of secluded mountain ranges that have ridiculously steep peaks.

Cave dragons are breeding. Also, one of the GDS born in the fortress just died of old age. I can't believe I've had tame GDS for 20+ years now.

31 years now

I should really write a story about the only fortress to win 0.40.

My fort became the mountainhome. My civ's king is a human so he's useless, but he came with a couple skilled military dwarves and a hefty migrant wave. Fullbasement now holds 188 dwarves.

This is my first time getting a fort to be a mountainhome. I'm so happy! :)

What version are you playing? Because my kings always came alone in DF2014.
