Updated to 40.24 and combat works properly again, yay and so on.

- Started to release trapped (unarmed) zombies to fight by military. Spearmen get most of the fun as zombies seem to last a bit longer, but macemen wont cause so much mess...
- Formed a scout party from the latest migrant wave and sent them to explore the cavern. Recruits with nothing else than shields and copper/silver spears and scourges managed to kill a forgotten beast that had a) dominated the 1st cavern for 3 years b) killed another forgotten beast and c) butchered hundreds of cave beasts and animals (and made the cavern a damn playfield for miasma). I didn't expect my scouts to survive so well, only few died. Well, it was a one way ticket...

Just beholded the hilarious sight of my war dog running around, chasing a hippo and one of my dwarfs trying to get him to chain him. It would be funny if one of my dorfs engraved this scene :P

The biome i established my fortress is quite movimented. Hippos being chased by dogs, Otter men, Giant Sponges awaiting for my fishdwarfs to come, carps carping around and a Giant Horned Owl, which is awesome because i love owls and terrifying because...well, Giant Horned Owl.

The winter was quiet, but not without event. That table required breaching the caverns for silk, and in the process we captured a breeding pair of giant toads and a lone elkbird. Corpses and statues of on-site events suggest somewhere around here there was a messy conflict between antmen and crundles.

Another artifact was produced by a stonecrafter, giving a useless bauble, and two small barracks buildings have been set up next to the depot, though stoneware brick production is slow in providing roof materials (since I don't want to use gabbro for the roofs.) Training munitions are also being produced and trees felled so that the marksdwarves can have a proper training area built onto the wooden security hut.

King Iton's needs are met, and the new Mayor, Trade Minister, and Treasurer are all nicely set up. Still need a manager and fortress guard but that can wait for another group of refugees; they'll be outfitted with the pernach, a type of mace. Why so deadly? Because they may have to be called to battle and a mace isn't likely to lop off limbs on a living criminal, since I refuse to issue nonbayonet crossbows.

Oh dear! I've got siege. Featuring troll hammerman with a silver maul. Who gave trolls weapon?!

I've noticed trolls with weapon skills too. It is terrifying. It was inevitable.
I suspect that they're trolls who got captured by another civ, who for some reason treated them as citizens rather than pets, and then got snatchered back?

3rd year.
My dorfs are buiding the 3rd tower.
There are too many mussel shells so they use them to improve furnitures.
Too bad sometimes they improve cages and equipments I mark as "Melt" as well.

6 kids accidentally fell in the atom smashing room and some dwarf randomly pulled the lever, smashing them all.

It was inevitable.....and unfortunate

Had a gobbo siege attack. My bronze-clad militia commander and one of his four mates got slaughtered quick, one of my squad members decided to go on break rather than defend the 1-tile wide passageway, and that left the other two to deal with the six or so goblins (after traps took care of the others) while having no armour skill and only being adequate axe dwarves.

The two slaughtered all of them. I'm going to be giving my new militia commander (the one who got four of the kills) a room of silver!

A vile force of darkness has come.

Close the game without saving

The vile force of darkness won't come.

Tautboredom the Coastal Cudgel-Bowl of Peaks began its fourth year with over 200 dwarves, many of whom I had no real use for, so I drafted a bunch into the army.

The years have been mostly boring. Booze is in the 4-5k range and growing, plants are steadily increasing over 1k. No sieges, no ambushes, no successful thieves. The war and hunting dog industry is booming, allowing plenty of war dogs to be assigned to my favorite military personnel / hunters / important dwarves. My metal works are still stagnant, as I'm having trouble locating anything to make copper (though my tin supplies are quite sufficient).

The only real excitement came when a werebear attacked a group of herbalists in the midst of their gathering. Six or seven herbalists were slain in an instant before the elite melee division reached the battle. The elite speardwarf militia commander and the hammer lord dealt the killing blows, but one truly Herculean elite wrestler punched the werebear so hard she caused the beasts arms and hands to explode. Unfortunately, Hercules lost her foot in the werebear's jaws and was doomed to turn into a monster herself.

She now spends her time locked in a barracks within the "Tunnel of Death" (used to divert enemy traffic during sieges) with her own food and booze stores, training, ready to strike should the fortress require her abilities again.

I wonder if kobold thief really means something.
So far all he did was running away as soon as he spotted my dorfs.

That's pretty much all they do unless you have very wide entrances to your fort so they can slip by, or lots of backdoors for them to sneak through. I always chain a couple war dogs on either side of my entrances to storeroom levels to spot them.

A Giant Bat snuck through an open space in my stairs and attacked our Manager.
He survived with moderate injuries.
A legendary miner caved in its skull.
