"Well, as a beholder, I have psychic abilities. I usually try to avoid prying into peoples minds, as they generally dislike that. But if someone thinks about something in the forefront of their minds, I just see it. It comes up like a facial feature. And I am aware of how your powers work, and the possible... side effects."

Cynthia looks visibly nervous.

Ether holds Cynthias hands in an attempt to comfort her. His illusion wears off in those spots, his hands becoming purpleish black and scaly.
"Do not worry. I am not here to attack anyone. And I will not morph you unwillingly. I will not do anything with your brain that you do not want me to. I only read your forefront thoughts because they stick out like a pimple."

Despite the weird scaly hands, Cynthia begins calming down.
"Okay... Okay. Right. Sorry about that."
Cynthia reaches up with one hand to brush a lock of hair from her face. She's still holding on to Ether's hand with the other.

"Affirmative." Fred watches the conversation with interest. "Cynthia, are you okay?"

Derek looks confused back in the cafeteria.

"I actually didn't learn anything because his damn defenses were too strong."

Cynthia reaches up with one hand to brush a lock of hair from her face. She's still holding on to Ether's hand with the other.

Ethers other hand (the one not being held.) morphs back into human form.
"It is nothing to worry about. It's not your fault. I am quite a fearsome creature, and it saddens me that I am, but it is the truth. This is what my true form looks like." Ether hands her a photograph of this. "I am fortunate that beholders come equipped with the ability to shapeshift."
