Here in Aussieland, it's probably illegal, but everyone is too lazy to check if it is or not, including the police. Me and a few mates set a fist sized rock of magnesium on fire with a pair of blowtorches and an air compressor.

Here in Ireland, it's definitely illegal, but the problem is less 'will I get caught?" and more "customs definitely won't let this through", otherwise I would have ridiculous amounts of sharp pointy things already.

Make your own sharp pointy things! Even if you can't get a smithy up, a few power tools and some ingenuity will get you somewhere. For instance, you can cut out templates from sawblades and just simply work the tool from there.
