Although the first day seems to be dick around and see how students act.

Though psychology might not work too well either on the non-humans, or on anyone whose problem is less about keeping calm and more about keeping their own powers in check.

Self  control is way too wide a term. Different species all have their own issues, so you can't really teach a blanket class on controlling your beastial urges. It's like trying to teach a dog and a cat simultaneously; they probably won't learn anything and will end up just fighting each other.
