Veterinary Tab Separate From Health Tab
« on: May 06, 2015, 04:57:09 pm »

I'd like for there to be some separation between the dwarfs and the pets/livestock when I'm scanning the health tab for injured Dwarfs.  The populations of both can get pretty high as a fort goes on, so it'd be nice to be able to narrow the field a bit.  There's a similar problem with the Dead/Missing Units list, since dwarfs' names get buried under a big, long list of stray animals.

Yes, this does sound helpful.  Maybe sorting dead animals by domestic and wild as well.

An actual functional veterinary tab that you can order diagnosis and treatments with would also be nice.

In other words, domestic animals might be used to train medical skills, and veterinary medicine will not require any new skills to be added to the game.  You can have your doctor try to treat injured animals, and don't get too upset if he fails; domestic animals are a lot easier to replace than dwarves.  In the case of specific dissection, the training doctor can probably give most or all of the carcass to the butcher once he's done.

While we're vaguely on the subject, ability to name domestic animals that are not pets.  I notice this mostly with birds:
Nest box: Claimed by Stray Goose (Tame)
Nest box: Claimed by Stray Goose (Tame)
Nest box: Claimed by Stray Goose (Tame)

It would be nice to be able to name them so I can make sure everyone has a nest box and nobody is trying to claim two.  It would also be handy keeping track of pastured grazers.

Um, nothing can claim two nest boxes, IIRC.  Also, DFHack or LNP or something lets you click "G" to get rid of all the non-grazers.  Just make a big pasture and click "G" and select all of them.
