Maintain Impeder, which will gain fuel experiments in creating an
Improved Mana Trap. Afterwards, we can begin to commune with and scare the local wildlife, and possibly get ourselves some fleshy scouts to check out the leyline web.

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

Do we gain mana at the beginning or end of the decade?
I'm pretty tired currently and have had a nagging suspicion all day that I've made a mistake with the mana-income stuff so I'll like to hold off on answering this for right now while I work some stuff out. There exists a possibility you guys may get some bonus mana due to something I did wrong. I know consistency is important, and I'm pretty sure I haven't been consistent about how I've been doing the mana-income, so I'd like to iron then out and then give a more detailed explanation of how mana-income will work from now on.

Improved Mana Trap. Afterwards, we can begin to commune with and scare the local wildlife, and possibly get ourselves some fleshy scouts to check out the leyline web.
You need to specify a amount of mana to dedicate to the mana trap action.

Ah, right. Try to build it with 3 mana. If that's not enough, we'll have a total of 6 to spend next turn.

Hast, Maintain, Mana Trap 3 (suggesting we spend the new action on mana trap)

Hast, Maintain, Mana Trap 3 (suggesting we spend the new action on mana trap)
If I'm understanding correctly, you're casting haste (costing 1 Mana), maintaining the Impeder and then spending 3 mana to experiment on Mana Traps? This leaves you with a deficit of 1 mana. I'm guessing you're using the Haste to use two actions on the Mana Trap? I'm not sure I like allowing that...

Yeah I'm gonna have to disallow that, sorry. It takes a set amount of time to test the designs that thinking faster or more won't solve, so no stacking two actions to complete Mana Trap in one turn (even without haste).

Maintain mana impeder

And try bring an animal close enough using false images and such then see if we can steal a tiny bit of its life force use 2 mana.

Haste 1 mana

Then travel down the ley lines again without mana see if there some kind of technique to get further.

+1 to both.

I was totally gonna suggest turning mana into lightning using equivalent exchange and I was gonna feel real smart about it, then I saw it was a default suggestion. :-\

Do we gain mana at the beginning or end of the decade?
Technically at the beginning, but only the mana in the pool before the next turn begins is valid for use in actions. Also, stopping maintenance of impeders are the exception to this rule, they stop applying their bonus before mana is gained. This is unintuitive however and I won't be doing things the same with any similar stuff later on.

Rather than giving bonus mana, I think I might have given you guys one too much mana, but I'm not a dick so your mana remains unchanged.

((So, barely managed to squeeze this out which is why it might be somewhat lackluster. Feels like I'm getting sick so update speed may be slower for a while (Also the reason I struggled to complete this)))

      Time Passes

> Maintain Impeder

The maintenance proceeds smoothly with nothing of note occurring.

> Mana Trap.

You try many designs over the course of years, multilayered nets, endless loops, elaborately woven congregations of knots, simple spheroid containers which hold the mana while feeding on it, a somewhat modified mimic of the convergence vortex and several others. Many of your designs fail to work outright or quickly dissolve, while other explode quite spectacularly, but a few prove somewhat viable, if still flawed. You will require more time to finalize the designs, but have enough mana leftover to continue your work without additional contributions.

[Improved knowledge of Mana Theory. Good progress on Mana Trap. -3 Mana]

> You can cast Haste on yourself. Does not take a action slot, costs 1 mana, and gives one additional action slot.

What do you do over the next decade? (Pick Two)

> Experimenting (what? include mana used)
> The Sense Link bridges the gap between your mind and that of the target animal, sending its sensory input to you. What if you reversed the flow and send something to it instead? Some false memory or sensation? Maybe you could induce artificial terror? This holds potential... (Costs 1 Mana)
> Going upstream. If you spent mana to counteract the flow you might be able to travel up your leyline, possible even discovering its source! (specify how much mana to spend)
> Let's try that again. With practise comes perfection. You could try to explore down the leyline again, hopefully with better results this time. Perhaps you could spend some mana, both to shield you from the buffeting and mitigate the attenuation, so you have a better view of the world beyond the leyline as you travel along it? (If you spend mana, specify how much)
> Why have the leylines taken the particular fixed paths they have through the landscape? You cannot sense any underlying pattern or reason behind this. If you could understand this, it should be easier to prevent leylines from jumping back to the old groove once you move them. You believe you'd get some insight into this mystery if you infuse mana into the area around leyline, saturating it with raw power until the secret is revealed to you. (Specify amount of mana to spend)
> While the Mana Impeder has improved your mana income, it is still ultimately passive absorption. If you could somehow "invert" the mana inside you for a lack of a better term, you might be able to form a sort of suction source, pulling in surrounding mana into your being. (Requires stored mana to invert)
> If it is possible for lightning to become mana, might the opposite perhaps be true? You would like to try forming mana into lightning. (Requires mana, specify how much)
> Rather than forming the substance itself, you would like to see what happens when mana mimics lightning's movements, striking a object with blinding speed. (Requires mana, specify how much)
> The Impeder will still need maintenance if you wish to keep it, though you don't think it likely you'll gain any further insights from this currently.
> Something Else?
*New*
> Your making good progress on the Mana trap, but you're not quite there yet. Just a bit more... (Does not require additional mana)

Mana Pool: 6/?? Mana
Mana Income: 3(Base)*2(Impeder)= 6 Mana/decade
Your weight: 10 metric tonnes
Sensory Range: 100 metres
Closest Non-"Owned" Leyline: 37 Metres

Haste +1

Maintain

Improve mana trap +3

Steal life force of animal +2

In case you missed it, you don't need to spend additional mana towards the Mana Trap research, but you're free to do so if you want to. Vis a vis stealing life force from a animal, some manner of attracting them towards you would be required first before you could attempt this (in other words the reverse sense link action, or something similar the players may cook up), so that action isn't possible yet.
