Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.

((I'm not sure if initiative crits are the rulebook, but I like them. I might add them to my own campaign...))

Calista acted quickly, taking an aspergillum from her belt and flicking holy water over both her shoulders, speaking ancient oaths to her God Halmyr, beseeching him for aid. A flickering white corona briefly engulfs her-and two nearby allies, as well, who feel blessed by the God of Tactical Acumen...like Calista, they see everything in greater detail, and are able to react quicker than usual...ironically, they don't feel very blessed as much, only much more aware and nimble of the battlefield on which they are faced,...it is a gift of knowledge, not protection.
...

Following up, she dashes forward at superhuman speed, pausing to angle a javelin at the spider-withdrawing in a cloud of dust before the weapon even closes with it's target.

"Wear it down from afar, Drow!" She calls, landing back on her feet.

Extra Action: Calista uses her bonus action to cast Bless on herself, the drow and Carric behind her, if he is within 30 ft.

Then she moves forward 15 ft, tosses her javelin at the spider, then retreats to her original position.

Attack +4 (+1d4 blessed bonus)
Damage 1d6+2

((i love this for multiple reason, one it is incredibly smart and well thought out, and you actually used material components instead of just your holy symbol))
((by the way night has fallen and it technicly counts as darness but you are closes enough to see them relatively well))
You cast bless, and you hits all there.

You walk up, throw  your javelin, (9+4+1). You hit, dealing (6) damage.

Marry uses Bardic inspiration on Calista, for the next 10 minutes you have 1d6 to add to any attack, save, or check roll.
Marry then walk forward and uses Vicious Mockery on the Giant spider, (?). The spider take (1) damage and has disadvantages on nest attack roll before the end of it's next turn

Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

But then Arrows fall out of the sky, (19+3)(18+3)(13+3)(3+3)(2+2)(12+3)(CRITICAL FAIL)(7+3). The giant Spider takes (18) damage but Archery 7 falls and takes (9) damage and now is prone

((The wasted elf can not help.))
((This sounds like a challenge!))

Carric poked his head around the corner to see the spider, drow, and intoxicated paladin around the square.

He wasn't sure if it was the drinks or the drawn weapons, but he had a slight feeling that things were about to DOOOOooowwwwnnnnnnn

Carric let loose a Guilding bolt. A Flash of light shaped like.... Corn? launches toward the Giant spider, ( 7+3+4). The corn hits exploding into pop corn, the spider is dead.

just then the middle of the lights up again.

"The portal is being open again, some thing is going to come out!"
((prepare an action for when something comes out))
Next turns

Mary
