If using machinery dirt would be much more difficult to dig through in the short term, but large quantities of butter would melt and coalesce into the recesses of a machine digging through it, caushing nightmarish maintenance issues, or maybe just keeping it well oiled, who knows.

What do you base that off of? Once again, we go back to the butter knife. A simple machine, if you will. If you stick the knife in dirt, it cuts through just as easily as it does butter. And that is designed for butter, not dirt. Tools designed for dirt can't did through butter, while tools designed for butter can easily dig through dirt, proving that butter is stronger.

Dirt isn't the same everywhere, and firm dirt is definitely harder to stab through than butter.

Maybe, but firm butter is harder to stab through then loose dirt. It isn't like all butter is the same, either. To be absolutely fair, we would have to use butter and dirt that is equal, or average. I mean, if I go to the beach, do you think it will be hard to stab into the sand? A child could do such a thing! But the worlds strongest butter? There is no way you would see a kid making a butter castle any time soon.
