identify the two black smudges that seem to appear in the mirror but not on the corresponding point on the fourth wall. Also, put our hands around our eyes to make a darker spot and peer very closely into the mirror to see if we can see anything on the other side.

That's just a bit of light glinting off it.

It looks like there might be something other than his reflection back there, but it's hard to make out.
