Atheistic dwarves? Hermite Vampires?
« on: March 21, 2015, 12:00:08 pm »

So, one of the dwarves in the latest wave of migration is a Great Cook, Great Macedwarf and really good in most social skills.
Naturally I thought: "VAMPIRE" but apparently she doesn't have any relations, no friends, no deity, no nothing.

Shouldn't a vampire at least have one deity? The one who cursed him? And don't they usually have a ton of relatives?
She also claims she likes beetroot wine and giant barn owl meat, but maybe thats a lie?

Also, I checked several other of my dwarves relations and it seems a few of them have no deity. Is this a new feature of DF2014, atheist dwarves?

He should gain relations in time. Some dwarves never gain deity. I've noticed there are whole families without deity. I don't know if this is a coincidence, or just rationalist parents tend to have rationalist children. Though I have a newborn baby which has a deity, despite its parents having none.

As for vampirism - it may be transmitted, and you can have not original vampire (if this is vampire, which I find doubtful) but a second generation.

So I used the renaming-trick and sure enough she's a vampire.

Dug out a crypt with a drawbridge-airlock, sent her in and done (she was too busy training/digging, she never even got the chance to go down to the sleeping-room level, let alone drain anyone).

2 Seasons later she gets elected mayor. I mean really? Now I have to add a fancy sleeping/dining/throneroom that won't even be utilized by her!
She must be some sort of myth all the others talk about, since barely 10% of my dwarves have even seen her. (She arrived in the migration wave and went to work on her crypt immediately).

PS: FYI: She does have good social skills but no friends among the other dwarves.

Maybe she's conscious of her predicament and doesn't want to cause pain (or be arrested) so she's purposely distancing herself from them?  That would be a crazy feature.

Nah, OP isolated her from the fort. All her social skills are from worldgen.

Don't forget to carve a fortification/window so any unhappy dwarves can talk to the Mayor without giving her a chance to leave the crypt.  I recall someone setting it up so the liaison could visit with the Mayor in the same way, but I don't remember who it was.

I recommend making the mayor the bookkeeper as well. ;D

this is was I going to point out, a bars wall should also work ??, vampires are destructors?

a little off topic,

Does a Deity influence in some way besides curse ???, A dwarf can be selected by a deity and have some kind of a buffer ? being the chosen one for a year ? something like that ??

does vampire can feed them self with barrels of blood ?

A wall make of metal bars behaves like a normal wall; no access but not able to be knocked down other than through the designation menu.  A metal grate can be destroyed by a building destroyer.  A carved fortification cannot be destroyed, though things can 'swim' through them if they are submerged.

mmm you make doubt, so I had to check... and the correct word was "Vertical Bars" (b->B), and those can be 'destroyed' by trolls. I never made a bar wall :S sorry my bad

Can a vampire mayor 'hear'/'have a meeting'/'suck blood' through the Vertical Bars? or can a militia member shot an arrow/bolt through it??

You can try a metal fortification.
Just prevent it to be some bars.
